The small one is on a CD base. The other one is on an MDF base I purchased from GameCraft Minis: link 1) I'm still not sure of how I liked the washes that I used, and 2) I still need to do the flocking and add tufts. But, otherwise so far, how do these rocks look to you?

This is what the one on the CD looked like after the washes, but before the dry brushing:
And those are the two Ceramcoat colors I used for the dry brushing. Dan TMP link |

Plaster* and pink foam, actually. :)
I used hot glue for almost everything, except at the end when I used PVA with the sand and grit along the edges. And, even though the DAP lightweight spackle brings in very little moisture, I was very careful to keep its use to a minimum. Only where needed, and as a thin final "coat". I just wanted to reduce the potential of warping down to a minimum. This also meant that all cracks had to be plugged with spackle. I did not want moisture from the paint washes to drip between the cracks and get trapped inside the whole piece to warp and create mold. And, to make sure that the washes went down properly, whatever wasn't already plaster was given an extremely light coat of that spackle. As I found out with a test piece earlier, surfaces with any superglue and other adhesives on them will not absorb the washes as well. Dan * Mostly very thin casts made using this one mold: link |

You guys are much too kind. It's been a very long while, and I can only do a little bit at a time these days. Well, seeing as how every time there's one of these formations, a huge pile of boulders/rubble ("plucking") is found further down and in front, I guess I'm going to have to make something like that too: :)
OR … maybe I should try making one of those tall glacier "moraines", and make it look like its a barrier made mostly out of "gravel":
