While I am figuring out this writing a blog and linking to the blog thing, I thought I'd add a short bit about converting a Leman Russ into something slightly less ludicrous. link |

Why do I keep double posting? You would think I would learn to just be patient… |

Great inspiration to model it after the Lee. |

Nice! Clearly, your version was the initial proposal before the committee refined it for a decade. (And anyone who has never seen Pentagon Wars needs to go watch it now.) |

A classic film that should be required viewing for every command & staff school student! |

Uggh. Reversing the tracks makes it absolutely incapable of climbing any obstacle. In fact, that design causes the tracks to jam underneath any overhang. BTW, the 37mm is not a 2-pdr. It's a copy of the German Pak 36 37mm AT gun. The 2-pdr was 40mm. Now, I will happily agree that the redesigned turret is a vast improvement! |

Looks nice. I think the whole boxy, illogical design of the Lemon Russ is a nod to the fluff--that sloped armor and such is too technologically innovative, and therefore, is counter to the established ways of doing things. Not unlike, if you think about it, the way that medieval Europeans worshipped the "Knowledge" of ancient Greek writers (Plato, etc.) rather than figure things out for themselves. Don't see a Renaissance for the Imperium, though. |

emckinney There are a lot of science fiction vehicle designs that re surprisingly impractical for negotiating any terrain more uneven than the average gaming table. I'm currently working with modifying a toy "Aliens" APC for tabletop use, and even though it is a cool design, the ground clearance does not allow for negotiating even moderate slopes. For the Leman Russ, though, I may finish some of my other builds (Tank Company box from the "Apocalypse" days still has several LRs on sprue, waiting to be assembled) with the gun mods, but leaving the "slow look" treads, and have them be the "Infantry Tank" model, while the "speedier look" reversed tread versions are the "Cruiser Tank" model. |

I really do like how a simple change in tracks makes the LR tank look a lot better. Comparing to modern day tracked vehicles and where they are supposed to go, I don't see why the tracks need to be that high in the front. If they really did need that much clearance to get over an obstacle, than I would be surprised if they could get the tank over the obstacle without critically damaging the tank. |

I dunno about those reverse tracks, but the hull battle cannon looks awesome. |
