Just a reminder that if you are sending an email to the editors about your membership, please remember to tell us your membername. It is faster if you tell us the first time. Also, anyone who calls me 'Mr. Gwen' will have their account locked. Show some tolerance, please. |

Tolerance should also be due to those whose language skills are based on different semantics. |

I always thought Tolerance was supposed to be a two way street, apparently I'm wrong. |

JimDuncanUK Agreed. Not everyone is fluent or gets all the nuances the way they were intended. Also, isn't the last name Nguyen pronounced almost like "Gwen"? Some people might not understand that it's not Nguyen. Either way, preemptive blanket threats of that type never really help. Dan PS. Also, if your account is verified, and the email is coming from that account, why is the username that critical? Shouldn't that pop up on your screen the moment you check out the (verified) email address? Or am I misunderstanding something here? |

Tolerance should be universally practiced but I would venture to guess that some of the errors in greetings were intended. The request to include username doesn't seem like a heavy burden to shoulder and according to the post speeds up the process. |

Also, if your account is verified, and the email is coming from that account, why is the username that critical? Shouldn't that pop up on your screen the moment you check out the (verified) email address? Or am I misunderstanding something here? If the email is coming from that account. Which it often isn't. I always thought Tolerance was supposed to be a two way street, apparently I'm wrong. If someone talks to a staff member in a deliberately insulting manner, that won't be tolerated. |

Bill: "If the email is coming from that account" Yes. That's the scenario that I was describing, though I still don't understand why you would have any unverified ones at all in the first place. Just a few years ago I took a 10-12 month break but, when I tried to log back on my TMP account, it showed up as locked. I think that was back when you first got some helpers. So, when I asked why I was locked out, one of the assistant editors said it was because my account was unverified, which has never happened*. However, I've noticed many accounts here that are unverified – often for a very long time – and their accounts never get locked out. Just curious, is all. Dan * Every time I get one of those verification requests I take care of it immediately. |

…though I still don't understand why you would have any unverified ones at all in the first place. Well, if someone hasn't logged into their TMP account in six months, their account is marked as unverified. Our goal is to persuade people to continue to keep us updated with their current email address, so that if they forget their password, they can get the password reminder. Just a few years ago I took a 10-12 month break but, when I tried to log back on my TMP account, it showed up as locked. I think that was back when you first got some helpers. Probably better to go back and check the actual messages from our staff, not your recollections. If you were gone for 10-12 months, your account would have been marked as unverified. That doesn't lock your account, but it does keep you from posting. |

Mine was locked. At least that what my profile said. And I had to ask someone to unlock it. Dan |

Locking has nothing to do with whether an email is verified or not. |

Bill: "Locking has nothing to do with whether an email is verified or not." That's my point. It shouldn't. Anyway, I can dig up those old emails and post them here, though I seriously doubt that's worth the trouble. Dan |

Or you can forward them to me, and I can explain them to you in private. |
