"Leading military space strategy experts are pondering the role of cislunar space in the context of President Donald Trump's plan to establish a U.S. Space Force. Just how valuable is that stretch of space between Earth and the moon's orbit? Might this celestial real estate become hot property as an extension of military arenas in low Earth orbit, medium Earth orbit, and geosynchronous orbit? Given forecasts of 21st-century activity on and around the moon by both private and government entities, could this be an economic area of development that needs protection in sthe years and decades to come?…." No, Moon Patrol (c) Atari would do that. Or maybe Army Command, Non-Terrestrial. That's ArComNonTer for the troops in green, or grey. |

Pondering fools, the space war is already being fought just like the Cold War. There needs to be one agency in charge of space, just like the Navy is in charge of the seas. |

Makes sense to have a coordinating/controlling agency -- right now each service branch has its own competing satellite programs and space R&D projects that don't talk to each other, not to mention NRO for instance. The Russians (called Space Forces and part of their Aerospace Defense Force) and Chinese ( China People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force) already have a space forces body as part of their armed forces. Heck, even France has a Space Force. |

The U.S won't go near the moon since they discovered the alien base established there and agreed to a mutual non-aggression pact with the decidedly militarily superior alien species. Don't ask me how I know this. |

Maybe the "UN" Space Force will beat us there and claim the Moon for China and the others. :) Dan link

Of course, assuming we reverse course over the concerns Soren has mentioned above. Be afraid of the dark, and the dark side of the moon. |

The real question is- will there be Space Marines? |

You guys do realize that there hasn't been a military astronaut in space since we retired the Shuttle, right? US Space Force is going to be a strictly ground-based agency with satellites in orbit for a long time. The only things 'patrolling' the Moon will be unmanned satellites.
The real question is- will there be Space Marines? With former-USAF making up the greatest proportion of the Space Force? No Space Marines. Bet a bottle of Scotch that the USAF will insist on some other word, if/when they ever get ground troops into space. |

If the USAF picks the name, it'd be Space Cadets. |

"You guys do realize that there hasn't been a military astronaut in space since we retired the Shuttle, right?". Are you sure? I thought most, or virtually all were from one military branch, or another (Air Force, Navy, Marines – mostly USAF, I think), and they're catching rides with the Russians up to the ISS. |

Lighten up folks, this started as a light hearted discussion. |
