Fantastic work as always, think the boat would have been full but that doesn't take away anything.
One of these days I will go to that yearly reenactment

Excellent!

I still want the full crew in the correct poses per Leutze. Is that too much to ask for?
grin

Nice work, by the way.

In the painting, the members of the crew each represented one of the colonies.

I haven't heard that interpretation before.
I read in Fischer's book that was a revolutionary allegory, specifically inspired by the 1848 revolutions in Europe.

Beautiful painting and figures.

I'm not nitpicking here, but wasn't it Glover's Marbleheaders who provided the transportation?
The guy rowing is wearing a hunting shirt, which doesn't seem to fit the Marbleheaders uniform.

Again, I'm not nitpicking. I'm just curious about that.
No matter what, it's a wonderfully painted piece that I would be proud to have in my collection.

It was never intended to be an "accurate" depiction, not as we wargamers understand it.

Fischer's book goes into some detail about Leutze's inspiration for the painting.
He did it in 1850, in sympathy with the 1848 revolutions in Europe.
It's a revolutionary allegory.
You see George, Madison representing the aristocracy, hillbillies, a woman, an African American, a Scot…
All are united in a revolutionary task fighting tyranny.
George is standing, posing heroically, because that's what revolutionary heroes did.

Yeah. It's full of inaccuracies but so what?
It's iconic, almost as iconic as the inaccurate Betsy Ross flag. grin
And I want the Perry's or Eureka or SOMEONE to do it in 28mm. Screw anal historical accuracy. I want Leutze!

Spy glass.
At night.
In driving sleet and snow.

All kidding aside, a great looking model and brush work.

Winston Smith29 Sep 2018 2:51 p.m. PST

Err, you can do one too, Jim!
grin

Nice work! Was the Delaware shallow enough for poles?

archiduque01 Oct 2018 6:51 a.m. PST

Beautifully done!

Makes me want to do the Geico version: YouTube link

Picky picky picky, c'mon guys give the guy his props!

Besides, the boat is too small to include the whole crew per the famous painting.

I do, however, like the idea of doing the Geico version.

Poles were used to push of the ice flows…
To prevent the boats being crushed.
