Hi All,

I am currently putting together a 28mm French army around Edward iv invasion of France in 1475. Whilst I have been able to identify the French command I wanted to have some standards for the Captains.

Do any of you know where I might find the names or heraldry of some of these individuals?

Many thanks in advance!

Edward IV's invasion of France in 1475 is characterised by a significant lack of fighting. Seems rather a strange campaign to depict?

I am well aware that there was no major fighting, however war gaming what if scenarios is one of the great things about the hobby. As the post says though do you have any ideas as to assisting my enquiry?

Many thanks for the link. He's already on the list, I have researched this ancestor of mine even nipping over to Graville in Normandy. I am looking forward to painting the fellow in 28mm!

OK, umm, Ditcham "The Employment of Foreign Mercenary Troops in French Royal Armies 1415-1470" mentions Joachim Cunningham, Seigneur de la Roche, who replaced his relative Robert in command of a largely Scottish company during 1475 – this is an "ordonnance" company of 200 Scots lances and associated archers, not the Scottish guard archers, I think.

And "Louis certainly took a keen interest in hiring foreign specialists; in 1475 one finds a payment to a Martin de Salzedo, captain of a troop of a hundred genneters or Spanish-style cavalry" – though whether you want that particular captain probably depends on whether you want to model Spanish jinetes in your French army!

Good stuff Gurkhan! Really helpful material.

I think that the 1475 campaign makes for a pretty interesting what-if, especially since also the Bretons and Burgundians were supposed to be joining in the action.

Unfortunately I do not have any insight regarding the French commanders available.

Thanks Griefbringer, that's why I thought it would be a good 'What if' campaign to consider. It also gives me a range of different regions to focus on for painting up.

There is a plenty of material about the Burgundians – it is a pity that there is so little published about the French ordonnance forces of the late 15th century.

I agree, looking for lower rank captains is proving tricky. Without a visit to France it's going to take some time I think.

I have a list I can dig out for you a couple
