"Nestled between Charleroi and Namur. Ligny is a sweet, peaceful village. Little would you guess Napoleon led and won one of his greatest battles here. This is the page of history this 17th century farm, now a museum, is unrolling for you.

On June 16th, 1815, no less than 152,000 soldiers would gather here, fighting fiercely. At the end of the day, the Imperial troop triumphed over the Prussian ones leaving a dramatic battlefield behind….."

I had trouble finding the museum so I asked a passer-by in my appalling schoolboy French. Struggling to understand me the lady I asked found a friend who spoke English who told me the museum was closed. However she knew the man who ran it and popped indoors to phone him and he agreed to open it for us while she insisted on taking us there so we couldn't miss it. Everyone was so friendly it made the whole day, a small museum but a nice battlefield not too developed since the day.

I've only just checked this post out. With both a museum and a battlefield that's not been too developed, they both go right onto my must-visit-one-day list.

Hope you can do it soon my good friend!. (smile)
