Would infantry have dropped equipment prior to entering battle or would they go fully loaded down? |

Loaded? I seriously doubt that, in most case they would probably has dropped their packs at their stepping off point. No point carrying all that extra kit. |

Prior to battle troops often piled their equipment and left it under the watch of a senior NCO, those on the 'sick list' along with the regimental surgeon and staff, and regimental wagons including the regimental officers personal kit (which was often substantial). |
