My miniatures gaming is somewhat limited. I'm currently playing CoC with some fine gents, however, I do not like the scale and we only meet twice a month. I'm a PC gamer (fantasy MMO's) so I'd like to avoid the PC option here of ww2 PC games. REALLY enjoy pushing mini's around the table, however I'd like to find a set of ww2 company size rules that I can use 6mm with and can be played solo (as best they can) Appreciate any suggestions even if it's "stick to PC games" :) |

You may want to take a look at Two Hour Wargames' NUTS! Big Battles rules, designed to work well as both solo and co-op games: link |

You can even marry NUTs with AIBSM to have the right recipe. |

The 5 Core series of rules have some mechanisms for playing solo |

I was going to suggest Hell Hath No Fury from Two Hour. It's designed for WW II tanks, but I don't see them on their website… |

link Here's HHNF, but Big Battles is better for what you want. Also, THW games are designed to be played solo, not the usual it can be played solo. Good and realistic solo play is the primary goal, not an afterthought. |

Are there any AAR's of Nuts Big Battles? |

CoC would work with 6mm. Personally I'd use Crossfire. |

Chain of Command I don't think would work with Company sized games, but I could be wrong. |

Not sure that would work for solo play. I do enjoy the game, but I think it would be difficult to roll chain of command dice for 8 platoons aside? |
22ndFoot | 20 Sep 2018 3:33 p.m. PST |
That would be a bit much, and I wasn't suggesting it, just letting you know that Chain of Command can be played at another level up. My suggestion for solo was IABSM. |

Platoon Forward has solo rules, if I recall correctly. It was written for TW&T but can be adapted to any rules (likewise any scale, aka Company Forward, Battalion Forward etc.) |

Captain Where are you from you can't find opponents? |
Microbiggie | 20 Sep 2018 5:44 p.m. PST |
I would also suggest IABSM The ground scale is just about 1/300 to begin with and the system uses blinds and card driven movement so excellent for solo playing. |

In Seattle, but I already have a gaming group. Just looking for something I can throw on the table (3x3) and solo for a few hours here and there. |

@JCfrog Can you expand a little on marrying Nuts with IABSM? Thanks |

Was looking at Blitzkrieg Commander 3, but it sounds like they scrapped it. |

I would recommend IABSM too. The card-driven mechanism works very well for solo – you are told that unit X is activating, and it's usually quite easy to decide what the best thing to do would be, given the limited choice. I find CoC less amenable to solo gaming, you have to try to hold the overall plans for both sides in your head at once, especially in the initial phases, and play each one as if you didn't know what the other side has planned. |

A couple of thoughts. You could use CoC with 6mm. Here are the disadvantages as I see them and some possible solutions. 1. Change the ground scale so 1"=1 cm as per the rules. Now your game board is much more manageable size, something like a typical board game board. For starters you could just draw up your terrain, especially buildings, to get some experience with sizes and suitable layouts. 2. Unit stands. You could single base your figures using small flat magnets and sheet steel unit bases or just glue the figures to the bases and mark the casualties with something like a ring cut from a plastic drinking straw. One base for each squad or team using the existing unit organizations. My thoughts are use a magnetic base for the leaders and leave space on the unit's base so the leader can be "attached". I thought you could use magnetic paper cut to say 1/4" square for leaders. The base size for other units would be appropriate to accommodate the number of figures plus the extra room for leader(s). 3. Buildings. Unless you want to use hollow stackable buildings as per 28 mm you would need to either keep all infantry units outside each building with markers indicating they are occupying the building and the floor they are on or an off board "map" with each building laid out. I like the idea of paper terrain buildings but the mechanics of the game like moving figures around to indicate which figures are firing from which openings is too fine for this size IMHO. I have been considering 6mm rules for a while and though I like CoC the handling of buildings (a large part of every game I have played thus far) is for me a sticking point. The alternate I have been considering is using a board game in this case Conflict of Heroes, Awakening the Bear. Personally I like hexes for regulating movement, solves many of the issues with buildings and the solo expansion for CoH is supposed to be excellent. You don't play both sides the game has a card driven AI which is second to none. I haven't played the solo expansion but have used some of the mechanisms introduced by it in my 2 player games. |

Ed, thank you I've read in another thread where someone said that if you want total control of your forces, then Nuts might not be a good choice. Anyone know what that means? I've narrowed my choice down to Nuts Big Battles, Blitzkrieg Commander 2, and IABSM. I'm liking BC2 the more I see of it. Lots of videos out there, more so than the other 2. |

I've read in another thread where someone said that if you want total control of your forces, then Nuts might not be a good choice. Anyone know what that means? It means that while you command your troops to move this or that way, decide your strategy, etc., when your figures encounter enemy figures they will react according to the In Sight "reaction" system -- they may decide to fire, duck back, charge, etc. and take different actions based on the situation, morale/training (called REP), and your dice rolls. So once they action starts you don't have total control over your figures -- but the system means your figures always have the chance to do something. They won't just stand there and watch an enemy unit come out and flank them, unable to respond because your activation card hasn't come up yet. |

Thanks SB So, that's not a negative thing it sounds like. I'll probably gives these rules, along with BK2 a shot. Not sold on IABSM yet. |

I've read in another thread where someone said that if you want total control of your forces, then Nuts might not be a good choice. Anyone know what that means? The funny thing about this is there are card driven games where you can't move until your card comes up, but "players have control over their troops". :) |

If you want to try Blitzkrieg Commander wait a month or two and Blitzkrieg Commander 4 will be out. 3 was scrapped and now to be replaced by 4 |
