This evening I posted my pictures from the Yushukan shrine/museum in Tokyo. It is a military museum with exhibits from the Japanese point of view, telling the history from the early beginnings, WW1 and WW2 era as well as all the other wars in between. Well worth a visit, and the best amount of English text compared to all the other museums we went to. There was a heavy restriction on what could be photographed, but the huge central chamber with WW2 items was free as well as the entry hall, so the pictures are from these two rooms. There were a lot more items though that I wish I could have photographed and shared. link

I enjoyed the museum as well (even better I went there without my wife so less guilt on stopping and reading all of the displays. I was very surprised at the number of suicide methods the Japanese had considered in WWII. From planes, to boats, to mini subs, to even the underwater diver with a torpedo on a long pole – it was surprising. I also thought that the Russo Japanese War section had some interesting exhibits and info I never knew about. BTW, one of the sections that you cannot photograph but is interesting is the Samurai section. Thanks |

Yes, Yasukuni Shrine is a pretty place. Got some great pictures of Cherry Blossoms there while I was in Japan in 2012. Highly political, though. |
