I've been away from the gaming scene for a while now and wondered if there had been any new skirmish game systems released in the last 3-4 years. By skirmish, I mean a squad per side, perhaps a full platoon. Cheers! Pete |

My rules Skirmish Action published in the last year. Website has same name. Can be used with 10 to 30mm minis. Includes everything needed in one book …. no supplements. Covers entire war with over 500 troop, tank, arty and plane types listed. Works well with squad or platoon. I regularly demo last battle from Private Ryan movie at cons to give you some idea of the "flavor" of the rules. Cheers! |

And very exhaustive – VERY – Chain of Command supplement for the 1940 France campaign just appeared. Yesterday I think. Together with the Pint Sized campaigns, we always really enjoy CoC. |

If you want something "different", Combat patrol is a card controlled (no dice) game that can be used for multiple periods. I tried it at a convention. It was pretty neat. link |

Here's Part 1 of a 2 part review of "Combat Patrol". I have seen after action reports of these being used for anything from French & Indian War skirmishes to Star Wars type sci-fi skirmishes. It would be hard to beat that for flexibility. YouTube link |

Chain of Command plays very well at platoon and squad level. It has an excellent campaign system and several published campaigns that bring an extra level of gaming, where keeping your platoon intact and fighting is more important than winning scenarios regardless of losses. You can see some information on getting started with Chain of Command here and a series of AARs of campaigns that should help you get a flavour for how it plays: Getting Started with Chain of Command |
