As I discovered yet again this week … nothing beats a toothpick* and a "parchment" paper funnel for getting putty or other filler material into tight spaces.

The "parchment" paper funnel idea I had always seen used in cake frosting applications, but never for terrain or diorama applications until I watched this video by "Paepercuts":

If you don't feel like watching the entire video, just fast forward to 6 minutes and 45 seconds, which is when he explains the funnel trick.

He also uses his baking paper funnel trick 10 minutes into this jungle tree video:

Such a simple tool too. And much better (and probably much safer) than going out looking for someone with a syringe you can have. :)

QUESTION
So, what under-appreciated tool is your go-to friend whenever you find yourself with very little room to apply material on your terrain project?

Dan
* Preferably a bamboo toothpick.

You can generally get oral syringes at a pharmacy. I use them for paint or even to blow a little air on a clump to spread it out.

The other tools I use a lot are a floral foam cutter for details and floral hot wire for larger cutting

Great technique and the whole video was actually quite interesting.

I wonder if those pipettes would work as well for extruding the acrylic gel?

That was an excellent video. Used some techniques I haven't seen before. Many thanks.

He is incredibly skillful. I always take notes when I watch his videos, and then pick the tips that are applicable for my needs and scale.

He has a quirky sense of humor too.
