After many many years I finally put together a gameable force of French infantry for the Russian retreat campaign I'm building.

The stars of the campaign will actually be the voltigeur company, but until then, these remnants of the 4th company will have to take the lead. (Formally, these are not scheduled to appear until the voltigeurs rejoin them after a short separation. The rest of the regiment has dissolved for our purposes here. Fog of war and all that.)

Other notes:
+ These are the 1809 uniforms which miraculously can't be seen under the coats.
+ Erroneously, OG sculpted the great coats onto the back packs and since there's dispute about what color coats were worn by the line, I painted the alternative tan color on the packs.

Enjoy!

I've got a couple of battalions of the same figures that I've painted up for the Peninsular War.

I filed down the rolled greatcoats a little and painted them blue to represent the coat instead. The idea being that the greatcoat is being worn directly over the waistcoat with the blue coat folded and strapped to the top of the knapsack.

Without wishing to sound entirely mad, might not soldiers have tried to scavenge extra greatcoats from fallen comrades?
