The government Monday said it's working to answer a bizarre question that has left historians and officials baffled: Who owns Bangkok's Victory Monument?

My work shift in Kazakhstan finished, cam home to Bangkok for 2 weeks of R&R and this was one of the items told to me by my daughter when she picked me up.

It was ordered by the then prime minister, approved by the king in absentia and a committee was allocated cash to get it built.It was built, the committee disbanded and, these things being pretty much maintenance free, every body wandered off.

There are several others scattered hither and yon in Thailand. The only time they're claimed is if some department needs to do some empire building to ward off another department or ministry.

The monument was built in 1941 to celebrate Thailand's victory in its conquest of French colonies in Indochina.

This is a campaign I need to know more about.
