I know that there are gamers out there who will have some expearience of these rules from the 80s. I used to play them and recently because of nostalgia l have been revisiting the older school rules milieu. So the question that I have concerns the low armour factor of the Tiger 1 in these rules. Basically the tiger had a armour protection of six and the Sherman has an attack factor of 5 + a six sided dice roles score of 1+ will disable the tiger and this will occur at 1000 metres plus (don't have the rules in front of me) but it certainly wasn't,t a result obtained at point range. These rules explain how the armour is worked out and it seems reasonable . There is a possibility for the armour score to increase if hit at an angle in these rules . However I read information for world war 2 trials which were kept secret at the time. Which suggest that the 75mm gun on the Sherman couldn't penetrate a tigers frontal armour at any range. Of course the rules only guarantee a disabled result, but it is guaranteed on every hit at 1000 metres plus ….anyone able to remember these rules or. Have I answered my own question by angling the tiger to obtain maximum template benefit , the rules use a template to determine angle of impact … I would appreciate any comments. I know these rules are overly complicated but as a young teenager all I wanted to do was to try and learn to use these rules and I have many happy memories of playing tank heavy wargames in the 80s ultising as many of the concepts in the rules that I could get to grips with.

Back when I played these the Shermans vs Tiger thing seemed very silly to say the least. WRG 25-50 did a far better job.

We just increased the Tigers armour value (plus there is tons more modern research about armour quality etc which would support upgrading Tiger 1s and downgrading Panthers).

Thanks Martin

I certainly have a soft spot for the 1973 version of WRG armour and infantry rules .
