After the first game in our Chain of Command Malaya 1942 campaign it was clear my jungle wasn't looking anywhere near dense enough to actually look like jungle, so I've set about adding to the collection with a range of new pieces. You can follow work in progress and some tutorials on my blog here More Jungle Terrain

Very impressive jungle! I hadn't realized that bamboo was that tall.

I don't know if this is called for or not. Long ago, I was a volunteer at the local natural history museum. For our plants, we cut out vac-u-form leaves, attached them to branches, spray painted them (on both sides). Then, we took a brush with fairly thin paint, wiped it a time or two, then held the bristles against a ruler or paint stir stick, and pushed the brush, so the individual bristles came over the edge of the ruler, springing forward and flinging their little droplets of paint towards the leaves, leaving little round spots to dull them down. I don't know if this is relevant or not, but it looks like your banana leaves are about the size of our Alaskan willow leaves.

Your Bamboo looks really GREAT!! I'm working on some and mine just did not look good. Work had come to a stand still… What color did you paint the plastic bamboo stalks? I intend to improve mine to look just like yours! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Great job and explanation. You've given me many ideas for future vegetation projects.

I'm stealing this – great info, thanks!

Beautiful stuff! It makes me think of bamboo I've seen or walked through in Thailand and Rwanda.

If you make the jungle too dense, you'll be at risk of miniatures disappearing into it, not to be found until the game is over and you're putting the stuff away. That's not unrealistic, I suppose.

Oberlindes THAT was funny!

Possible, but a small price to pay for an attractive table. If you want to see how well dense tropical terrain can work search out Mark Luther's really dense, but brilliant looking tables. Great looking tables is why I play minis, if I want to settle for abstractions I'd stick to board games.

i love your work. its stunning

Beautiful work there! Wow!

I always wonder how extremely steep hilltops on Caribbean islands can get a lone palm or two, specially when hauling coconuts uphill on such inclines is not what a typical islander would do.

But there they are …allways one or two palms where you'd never expect to see any. It must be some coconut-loving faction of chupacabras or something. :)

Anyway, that's why I've also ordered some palms for my future jungle project.

Very nice. The herbs look really good as ground litter.

I have a bag of scale bamboo around waiting to add to my jungle terrain, though mine are still awaiting paint. How did you glue them to the bases?

I recently completed 400ish palm trees for a Guadalcanal project, and sticking them securely to the pennies proved to be the biggest hurdle.

Stellar job!

I really like the abundance of fallen leaves in the ground

Nail, head, bang. Well said.

I get around the problem of "too much terrain" by marking the area on the table that defines the size of the terrain piece (forest, jungle, town, bog, cornfield, whatever) and moving the 3D pieces out of the way as the soldiers move through. With skirmish gaming, the terrain doesn't have to move aside, the miniatures have to avoid running into it. :-)

Very nice jungle. I wonder if it is better to have all of one type of foliage on a base, or to mix it up.

If you cannot find bamboo on eBay, Amazon has some available.

On ebay:

There are lots of other "sellers" on ebay too, with basically the exact same photos, terms, prices and descriptions:

And they all have pretty much the same mixed stocks of other miscellaneous materials and products (electronics, beauty aids, model railroad trees, sex toys, fishing tackle, etc.). So I wouldn't be surprised if all those "sellers" worked for the same warehouse over there.
