Went on a Labor Day Excursion visiting several historic sites. Thought you guys might find it interesting. I posted it on my blog

Nice write up. Been past Ft. Scott a few times, but not stopped, it looks like it'd be worth it.

If you get the chance to go further afield, the Eisenhower museum in Abliene is pretty cool. That's going to be about 2 1/2 hrs west from KC.

Ft. Leavenworth is also worth a visit. Check out the old post chapel and there is a museum with lots of wagons and carriage.

Also you have Wilson's Creek, Pea Ridge, Prairie Grove battlefields just south in NW Arkansas. I hope to see you at Recruits in a couple of weeks.

There are some sites around Kansas City marking events leading up to and after the Battle of Westport.

The city has overgrown the battlefield, but some was not developed and is a Park.

East of the city is the Battle of the Big Blue. The area along the river is fairly unchanged except where the highway crosses. IIRC you can still find where the wagons use to move down to cross the river.

I'd also recommend the Arabia Steamboat Museum 1856.com

and The National WW1 Museum and Memorial theworldwar.org

@ Grizzly711 – Thanks I'll add that to my list of stuff to go see.

@grelber Yeah that's definitely a place to go to soon. Fairly close too.

@Wackmole9 Yes I plan on being at Recruits Saturday. Wilson's Creek will probably be my next big journey, once it is cooler.

@Major Mike the Arabia thing looks really cool, thanks for the reminder on Westport, I had seen that before, and it's not far from the house. I've been to the WW1 Museum 3 times, once for a construction event, once for Taps at the Tower, and a couple weeks ago for a living history event out front. I have yet to tour the museum. Soon though…
