Never heard of one. There are so few strategic games on the conflict at all it is a bit of a longshot. |

A friend had a boardgame of Vietnam with this option, in the 70's. If the Americans did cross the De Militarized Zone (DMZ) or did a Marine invasion of the North a rather large Chinese Army entered the fray. |

a rather large Chinese Army entered the fray. Where's Doug McArthur when you need him? |

E.g., we talked about something similar a bit when I was with a Mech Bn, in the ROK '84-'85 … The difference with the OPLAN in the ROK was if the war started we were to push deep into the North, capture Pyongyang and unite the 2 Koreas under the South. Of course again the wild card in the ROK and North Vietnam would be the PRC. But the situation in the '80s was different than in the '50s in the ROK. And as in Indochina in the '50s as well for that matter … Would the invasion of North Vietnam be similar by the USA/SEATO ? Would the PRC risk going to war with the USA over North Vietnam ? Maybe ? The US Military/SEATO in Vietnam in the '60s-'70s was very much different than the USA/UN forces during the '50s in the ROK. As far as the PRC in the '70s. We saw when the PRC and Vietnam went to war in '79. It appeared the PRC was still using some older TTP, etc., similar to what they did during the Korean War, some 40 years before. The US Military had evolved substantially since the Korean War, however. I.e. as opposed to along the East/West German, NATO/WP border. The mission was to only reestablish the IGB. No push on to Berlin, etc. Of course the USSR/WP forces and situation at that time were very different than the NoKos and their ally(?) the PRC … |

There was a very fun Operational Art of War scenario about this with the 11th ACR and the 1st Cav leading the charge. Wickedly fun scenario with the possibility of a Chicom intervention. |

When I was stationed at HQ USMC in 1973 I was a low-level participant in a high-level staff war game of the invasion of NVN with the 1st and 3rd Marine Divisions. The finale had the basketball court set up for an amphib invasion using different colored ships and tape to designate the different landing zones. Unfortunately, I was not able to observe the outcome. Wolfhag |

Now that would have been an interesting war game. |

Legion, As a 19-year-old it was interesting. However, it was mostly a high-level logistical exercise for O6's and above. The building had field phone wires across the ceilings and throughout as there was no other intercom. The officer I was assigned to later became CENTCOM Commander after Schwartzkoph stepped down.
