She's visiting the Metropolitan Museum today and Teotihuacan tomorrow! Those were two things on MY bucket list! :)

Needless to say, I charged her to take lots and lots of photos, specially of the ruins.

I'm absolutely jealous.

Dan
PS. Her "little" brother (six foot two inches, so I mean younger) is there on business and she decided to join him. They are both very travel savvy so I'm not too worried about them being safe, specially with him there.

Dan,

No problem, just don't drink the water. When I was at Ft Bliss, and we would hit Juarez we made sure to only drink Dos Equis. grin
Many a weekend lost at our favorite Juarez dive, the American Bar, with the men's room out the back in the alley. And we would be the only Americanos in the joint. But, never had a problem except turning down the "marriage" proposals by some of the young ladies. grin grin

Hate tot rub it in but I've been to Mexico City and Teotihuacan twice! --first time during the Summer of Love (and Sgt. Pepper's) and then again in the early 90's.

I hope your wife and her brother enjoy themselves without mishap, and that you one day get to visit as well.

I stayed at a cheap hotel in the historic district a couple of years ago and had a good time -- lots to see there. The ruins are very cool. There are a lot of hustlers at the site trying to get you to buy trinkets and "sterling silver" jewelry.

She just texted me some picture of Kreepy Kahlo. Now, why would anyone want a picture of that!

She should be texting me pictures of Aztec, Maya, Olmec, Toltec artifacts. :)

Dan, hate to say it but if she's visiting the Metropolitan Museum then she's at the wrong museum for what you want. You want her to be at the National Museum of Anthropology, also in Mexico City. That's where the cool archeological stuff is. It's in Chapultepec Park.

As for Frida Kahlo, I caught the exhibit of all her work, together with a lot of Diego Rivera's work when the show was in Toronto a few years back. Simply stunning. And her "creepy" works were done to illustrate her feelings on being maimed and partially lame from her famous accident. She has her own museum in Mexico City and her and Diego have another Museum, also dedicated to their work. Heck, even the Police have a Museum!

Yeah, the anthropology museum is where the skulls, sacrificial knives, codexes, etc. are. I found the pics I took if she doesn't come through for you.

The Museo Nacional de Antropología is where she told me she was going. She said it's the one with the big "umbrella" column fountain, so that must be it.

Why I said the other one, I have no idea.

She says that pictures of Kreepy "Unibrow" Kahlo are everywhere. Personally the only version of Kahlo I've ever liked is the one in the Pixar animated film Coco (2017). I like how they poked fun at her ego issues and even her "papaya".

Why would you "like" making fun of Frida Kahlo?

For someone who didn't see the film, what "ego issues" and what "papaya"? Do you mean "Still Life with Watermelon" 1953?

Sorry Dan, this is mutating into the "don't mess with Frida" thread.

Has your wife made it back from Teotihuacan yet?

Cacique Caribe04 Sep 2018 9:03 p.m. PST

She made it back from Mexico DF this evening. She says she took lots of pictures, but wasn't able to walk too much on Sunday(?) when she went. She loved it though. She said the sheer size of the main pyramid is "beyond description".

Plus she says she went to some amazing restaurants around the small hotel where they stayed in a neighborhood called Contesa.

I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see the pictures. She's already gone to bed.
