The Great War was caused by "some damn fool thing in the Balkans, not worth the life of a single Pennsylvania Grenadier", to slightly paraphrase Bismarck.
It would have started with or without American Union with the Mother Country.
Or, who is to say that France would have been an ally? A superpower Britain may have found France seeking other allies, like the Prussia she never went to war with in 1870. |
