There was the War of 1812, the War of 1833, the First Ohio-Virginia War, the Three States' War, the First Black Insurrection, the Great War, the Second Black Insurrection, the Atlantic War, the Florida Intervention.

If I had a pound for every time this comes up, well, I'd be richer than I am now.

Glengarry501 Sep 2018 3:24 a.m. PST

It wouldn't be so hard to find a decent cup of tea in America!

Stryderg01 Sep 2018 4:32 a.m. PST

The fourth of July would not be celebrated. Or it would be celebrated as National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. mmmm, chocolate ice cream…

14Bore01 Sep 2018 6:14 a.m. PST

My holidays would be different, might have to work Christmas day like Bob Crachet but would get Boxing Day off.

14Bore01 Sep 2018 6:28 a.m. PST

On the other hand would probably watch F-1, play darts and ……
Hey, wait a minute

Cerdic01 Sep 2018 6:36 a.m. PST

You would probably be just like Australians…

Winston Smith01 Sep 2018 6:42 a.m. PST

We would all be speaking English.

We would be using different money and follow different units of measurement. And that flamboyant wedding would have taken up even more time on television if that was even humanly possible.

carne6801 Sep 2018 11:05 a.m. PST

Neil Armstrong would have planted the Union Jack on the moon.

Cacique Caribe01 Sep 2018 11:35 a.m. PST

LOL. We would be "Canadians" right now!

And some cuddly little animal would be our national symbol, to go and defend the lion in time of need. :)

No War of 1812…yet some Yanks called that The Second War of Independence…

Cacique Caribe01 Sep 2018 8:18 p.m. PST

I always saw 1812 as The Empire Stikes Back (and loses again). :)

You might find a decent plate of scrambled eggs somewhere between Frisco and Maine.

Winston Smith02 Sep 2018 7:43 a.m. PST

I've seen Gordon Ramsay make scrambled eggs. No thanks.

Great views guys. But joking apart, if the U.S. had stayed part of the Empire, there may not have been a First or Second world war. After all, who would have dared take us on if the U.S. had still been part of the Empire.

Winston Smith15 Sep 2018 2:12 a.m. PST

The Great War was caused by "some damn fool thing in the Balkans, not worth the life of a single Pennsylvania Grenadier", to slightly paraphrase Bismarck.
It would have started with or without American Union with the Mother Country.
Or, who is to say that France would have been an ally? A superpower Britain may have found France seeking other allies, like the Prussia she never went to war with in 1870.
