I've just been prepping some of Crusader's mounted Saxons, lovely figures BUT the left arms are sculpted flush with the bodies in such a way that if a shield is attached they won't sit on their horses – the shield and the horse's neck get in each other's way. So I'm going to have to resculpt ALL their left arms. Fantastically annoying.

I was intending on doing a big order of their Normans, but if they suffer from the same design flaw I don't want 'em. Can anyone illuminate?

Would Saxons be true cavalry?
Maybe the figures are supposed to be mounted infantry. In that case, sling the shield from any convenient spot.

Did the Anglo-Saxons field cavalry is a thorny question without a definite answer! I'm resigned to doing the conversion to make them work as I've only a dozen of them, but if their Normans (who most certainly DID have true cavalry) require the same surgery, I'm not really willing to do it on 50 or 60 of them. I've had similar issues with Artizan and Foundry figures not being able to hold their shields, I do wish sculptors would take the time to check these things.

I don't remember any issues with my Crusader Norman cav, but i did them several years ago. I think the biggest issue is the preformed molded saddles are usually too wide.

Hard to tell from the pictures on their web store, but they seem to be OK.

Crusader cavalry of all flavors have at least some fit problems ever since they switched to Ebob horses with vertical heads and flowing manes. There just isn't much room left for the riders.

Hmm. Sounds like it could be 50/50. I'll get a single pack of the Normans and see, otherwise I'll stick with Saxon/Warlord and Footsore.
