On August 22, the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (HMGS, Inc.) once again received a report of someone purporting to offer for sale the "Historicon attendee list". It is a scam!
HMGS, Inc. does not ever sell any membership data, nor do we share it with anyone outside of the HMGS membership or specific contracted third parties (e.g., the company hosting our membership database, whose contract explicitly restricts them from sharing our data with anyone else).
The individual who sent us this most recent report said they were offered a list of 4700+, and also reported:
"the 'sample' they provided didn't look like any attendees who would normally be at Historicon, which made me suspicious… The company in question is called Inspuin and I communicated with 2 individuals: Roxy Peterson and John Lewis. The first one has an email address under expolists.com."
If you Google 'Inspiun', you will find other people complaining about this company selling fake databases/lists.
If you receive an offer from someone to sell you our membership or attendee data, it is a scam, so, please do not respond.
HMGS takes the privacy of our members' and vendors' personal information very seriously, and we will never sell or share this data with anyone or any business. We all have to recognize that these types of scams are more prevalent in the digital world we now live in, and it is the responsibility of each of us to help protect each other.
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing many of you at Fall In!
