Hello All,

So if I wanted to start a blog where to I begin.

Thanks

(1) What's the subject(s) you want to cover, get some content ready, like a dozen or more posts.

(2) Understand your IT limitations both in skills, how much time you have, and how much many of any you are going to spend on it. Are you going to sue a domain name or not for instance ?

(3) Choose a host
- Wordpress
- blogger
etc

(4) Depending on host platform and the amount of storage space they come with, you may also need to choose a host for your pictures. You will burn through storage space very easily in a couple of years.

(5) Post half a dozen articles, THEN advertise it somewhere like, I don't know some backwater place like TMP. ;-)

Content is king.

I wish we had some sort of blog index on TMP.

Now someone will post that we indeed do. Doh!

1. Sign up to blogger or someone

2. Start typing

I know it sounds a bit facetious but really there is nothing like just doing it! You can always have a fiddle with the look etc when you have become more familiar with it. My IT skills are non-existent and even I managed it!

At the risk of being accused of blowing my own trumpet, here is a link to mine so you can see what a complete numpty can do….

I am without any significant IT skills. If you can handle a Word document you can handle the creative side of Blogger. I just hammered away at it until I figured it out, and Blogger is very generous with photo hosting, my blog is pretty picture intensive antonswargame.blogspot.com

BTW nice blog Cerdic, I am going to link to you from mine!

I have no IT skills, and found Blogger to be about as easy as could be asked for.

Create a Google account, go to blogger, choose a pre existing layout (there are bunches), type, link, and upload photos.

I've got around 250 posts, and have got to have wayover a thousand photos hosted through Blogger, so space shouldn't be a problem, at least for awhile.

One thing, if you are posting lots of pictures, make sure you scale them to something like 800 x 600 so you don't fill your data allowance!

I started my blog almost 8 years ago. I found Blogger very easy to use, even with customizing some aspect of the layout and colors. I like frames on the pictures, for example. I'd strongly recommend adding a "followers" widget (takes almost no time). You can always add more and tune it up later. The biggst issue is content – that takes time and work.

If you keep pictures (JPG) under about 200 file KB size, it will likely be 10 years or more before you use up the allocated space; I have 660+ published posts, many very picture heavy, and have yet to exceed my free allowance.

Just do it… and then engage in some self promotion!

If using Blogger, and you use up your photo allowance, can you purchase additional space?

JimDuncanUK24 Aug 2018 12:00 p.m. PST

I've been using blogger for years and I didn't know I had a photo allowance.

I do make sure my images are not larger than 1024x768.

I've been using Blogger since 2008 and never have storage issues nor care about pictures size: javieratwar.blogspot.com
