…Outbreak Occurred? "There's no way around it: Viruses are scary. They're invisible to the naked eye, they can be difficult to get rid of and many are capable of spreading quickly. That's why it's important to detect a disease-causing virus before it has the chance to infect so many people that it's impossible to contain. Failure to detect and contain a deadly virus early enough to prevent an outbreak is a key component of the story in AMC's sci-fi series "Fear the Walking Dead" (which airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT/8 p.m. CDT, starting Aug. 12). The show, now in its fourth season, follows characters as they try to survive in a world that's been overcome by a deadly zombie virus. Fortunately, in the real world, scientists have developed multiple techniques for detecting viruses quickly — and, hopefully, before an outbreak were to occur…." Main page link Amicalement Armand |

Zephyr1 for "Place!" Public enemy No. One for the CDC in containment and control: Modern day airline travel. One person 'could' go around the world spreading any virus across the planet and return to their starting point, just as the first groups of the exposed were only beginning to show signs that we were.. Could scientists and governments detect and stop an alien invasion if it was already underway? No? Then we must STOP all our real work now, and we must focus all our mental and physical energy on this other purely hypothetical question*. We must have task forces and investigations. We must fund research on the subject. We must pass new laws. And we must institute an alien invasion tax now! Dan * All good to make stuff up, as long as it helps advance their real agenda: link link PS. From City of Ember (2008) - Mayor Cole : These are trying and troubled times. Our problems are grave. We need answers, but beyond answers, more important than answers, we need solutions. And in order to find those solutions, I propose we launch a thorough investigation. [Many members of the small crowd nod and say "Yes."] Mayor Cole : I hereby declare the creation of a Task Force to Investigate the Blackouts. [the crowd claps. Lina looks cynical] Mayor Cole : Do I have volunteers? [Several hands rise into the air. Cole looks gratified] Mayor Cole : [grandiosely] Today, we, the people, stand united against the darkness! |
