Well done but not very dynamic a diorama… :/ |

Agreed very well done, but I feel in pieces like this, there is so much detail,I'm not sure what to focus on and it all blurs into one. Am I alone ? |

londoncalling, I feel the same way about many of the current miniatures: too much detail for something I will use at arm's length only. Give me the simpler figure sculpts of the 80-90's. Just because you can put in that much detail, does not mean that you should. If I purchase figures with uber-detail, I likely will not paint all of it. Too much detail will be 'hidden' at usable distances (arm's length, on the tabletop). This is just w-a-a-a-y too busy for me, even as a diorama. The skill level is impressive, but artistically, it just is an attention-demanding mess. (Can you tell that I am NOT a professional art critic? LOL!) Your critique may vary. Cheers! |

Glad to see others express my sentiments as well. The model is way too busy- so much that it is difficult figuring out what it is. As Sgt Slag says "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." The artist needs to introduce more contrast if he's going to paint so much detail. The clutter on top & the mammoth beneath are being affected by the same light, so you can't tell which is on top & which is beneath. The mammoth should be much darker to, perhaps, make the model more identifiable. |
