We saw the traveling Vietnam Memorial War Wall at a nearby public park yesterday. A lot of the local families showed up, left items near their dead relatives' name on the wall and many Vets of all eras were there as well. Very sobering, and yes, still very sad for many. Hard not to be touched in some way.

May they all Rest in Peace and know they are not forgotten …

I still can't see it. While there were only a handful of names i know, from brother cadets and fraternity brothers, it's still too painful.

The last episode of Vietnam by Ken Burns was partly about the wall. It was very moving to see some Vietnam vets on the show say they were VERY upset with the memorial and would not go to see it but both of them start tearing up when talking about their eventual visit to the wall.

I remember when they released the design details, an then when it was built; I really didn't think much of the design.

And then, when I went to see it in 1987, it was a tremendously, tremendously emotional experience.

I have visited all the Monuments in DC and each touch a different feeling. It is so sad that the only think we could come up with for WW1 was Changing Pershing Park.

I've tried several times since it opened to get my dad there. He's refused repeatedly. I have one friend buried in Arlington and find it very hard to go there. I can't imagine what he's gone through after three tours in 'Nam.

I agree. It is a moving memorial. A few years after it was dedicated an artist, Lee Teter, did a very moving painting called "Reflections." Here:

I got a copy and gave it to a friend of mine who is a USMA grad and a Vietnam vet – 101st Airborne, Firebase Ripcord – since it reminded me of him. He was truly grateful as it seemed to express how a lot of vets felt. I also have some emotions about Arlington, since there are a lot of my personal and our family friends, colleagues, as well as both of my parents, buried there. I visit there several times a year. I noticed over the years that whenever there was a commemoration at the Wall one of the regular attendees was Chuck Norris, whose brother – also of the 101st, stationed near Ripcord – was killed in Vietnam. Just my two cents worth.

I'm sure Arlington is an emotional experience for many who visit. With row upon row our war dead. Again, may they all Rest In Peace.
