For every problem, there is a solution.

Prices for GW stuff in the antipodes do seem pretty high.

I got my Grand Master edition and an extra box each of the knights and the warlord last night from my FLGS.

The Beast Rampant18 Aug 2018 2:56 p.m. PST

You DO realize that at the current exchange rate, that $110 USD Warlord really only costs $82 USD?

Funny how a weaker pound NEVER affects GW's American pricing. It's permanently set to the most disadvantageous extreme of the exchange rate. Actually, that's a poorer exchange rate than we've seen in the last year.

I would actually BUY an $82 USD titan. And more importantly for THEM, I would buy into the game system. That means more money now, and more money later. That's how marketing works. You try and get the customer in the door, not stand in the parking lot and huck beer bottles at passing cars.

And that's why Games Workshop can shove Adeptus Titanicus WAAAAAAY up in there.

Try war store for $93.50 USD

They seem to have done alright at the current pricing. The Grand Master box is sold out online.

And TWS would sell it for substantially less if MSRP was $82 USD, wouldn't they? You're missing the point.

They survived for twenty years with me buying nothing from them but spray primer and maybe a dozen paints. Now they won't suffer on my account. I just fail to see how those footing the bill for 40K and AoS armies have the big bucks that this little side project demands. I just hare to get worked up over new GW bringing back The Oldies, only to have my hopes dashed when I see the price tag. I would not have guessed anywhere near that.

Saw AT in the FLGS today! Unopened boxed not even stocked on the shelves yet. They look beautiful, Colonel, but can they fight?

Wackmole919 Aug 2018 9:55 a.m. PST

Ok Beast you win Don't buy the game. I'am someone who also only buys paints and terrain from GWs, But I really like the look & Quality of these new models. I bought a Grand master box for $230 USD and I have to say its worthy it.

Winston Smith19 Aug 2018 11:03 a.m. PST

I'm just glad I don't have to go to GW for American Revolution. grin

I have to pay $12.15 USD for 6 Perry Volunteers of Ireland! grin
Fetch my smelling salts…

Well I think you are actually missing a lot of things. For one thing the pound is weak right now. They certainly can't go basing pricing around the world based on any but an average exchange rate, or at least a more normal one.

A more reasonable price might be $97.50 USD based on the normal exchange rate. That isn't so far off $110. USD Then if there are import tariffs or anything like that it would explain the 10% difference between what you might expect, given a normal exchange rate.

While looking for something else, I stumbled upon a Perry Queen's Rangers artillery set. It has a 3pdr with 2 mantlets, an amusette (think a HUGE musket, with its own mantlet as cover), an ammo chest and 6 crew.
Being a frivolous young fanboy lad with money to burn, I immediately ordered it.
MSRP $18.63 USD, but I got it from the Warstore for $16.99 USD.

I bring this up because it's totally a one-off. I'm not likely to get a second blister. Even the Volunteers of Ireland would require 3 or 4 packs to do Camden.
Pretending that apples are oranges, what would I pay for the 40K equivalent? I once saw an Ultramarine Librarian in a blister for over $25 USD, and that would be a unique blister also. It was in a store that soon went out of business. I think the store is now a ski shoppe. grin
I'm not being hostile, just curious.

The War Store listing is NOT the same one linked in the Aus site. The AUS one is running somewhere between $260 USD-90 US depending where you look.

The Warstore one is only a Warlord Titan.

No, you miss the point. the historic discrepancy notwithstanding, the exchange rate has been surprisingly steady, accounting for relatively short-term fluctuations, for many years. The numbers STILL don't shake out. If the pound should (somehow) remain as weak, the ratio rock-steady, for the next two years, do you think they'd bother adjusting prices then? Or just print more cash?

Pictors Studio20 Aug 2018 3:00 p.m. PST

"Exchange rate has been surprisingly steady . . . for many years."

Are you kidding?

Here is a graph over the last 5 years.

link

As you can see it goes from $1.55 USD for a pound up to $1.72 USD to its current rate of $1.27 USD.

Until Brexit it was above $1.45 USD pretty consistently and has traditionally been $1.50 USD or around that as long as I've been paying attention, with some fluctuations.

It hasn't been rock steady for the last two years at all. And to base calculations on the current low rate vs. the more traditional rate, which works out about right, would be foolish on their part.

Winston Smith22 Aug 2018 8:31 a.m. PST

Whatever the exchange rate is, I dare say that for hardcore GW players, the price is not their highest priority.
To s historical player like me, the prices are universally absurd. And I'm not being judgemental here. I splurge on quantity.
I have done Plains of Abraham, St Foy, Germantown, at 1:20, and 500 figures on the table for NW Frontier. I did Trenton with 75 figure Hessian regiments.
I'm collecting 28mm Queen's Rangers to do battles at 1:5. And Lauzun's Legion for Gloucester Point.
I'm just as crazy as anyone who pays "absurd" GW prices. My battles simply have more figures, and I've probably paid as much if not more.

And let's not bring up the Orc Invasion of Canada…
Hundreds of Orcs, no GW ones bought at current MSRP.
