First try at this, and I may not have the right forum site, but this is essentially a question about paint, so here goes.
For many years, I have collected and have tried to restore and convert old and broken hard plastic Marx WOW "7th Cavalry" figures. From what I can ascertain, they are some of the very few figure sets in that line that are cast in flesh colored plastic. The repairs and conversions are relatively easy and fun, and then I remove the often chipped and badly applied painting by simply soaking them in Clorox cleaner, to get them ready for repainting. And so here's my question and problem. I really, really like the shade and texture of the dark blue that was used on their shirts and tunics. It was dark, yet slightly metallic and at times almost translucent--like the type and color used on old metal Britains Union Civil War figures. But I have never been able to find a color by any manufacturer that comes close to the color quality Marx actually used. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. Thank you.

I think they look like Testors acrylics painted over plastic that has not been primed. At least that's how I remember them.
I had cowboys and ACW figures in HO scale when I was a kid.

Try thinning the paint, first, then apply multiple coats, letting each dry completely, before the next. The pro miniatures painters eschew this approach. It might explain your translucent description, as well. Cheers!

Flashman,
Yes, those are the figures! I'll track down the Midnight Blue.
And Cavcrazy, I didn't even know Testors offered acrylics--thank you for the tip.
And Sgt Slag, that's a good idea as well.

Thank you gentlemen. I'll check back and let you know what worked.
Enjoy the remainder of the summer.

There is also Liquitex Prussian Blue.
I use this for the Prussian Blue uniforms with a black primer it is very dark.

WRGMR 1,
A lot of figures to paint, and some good options.
Thank you all.

Here is a photo of some Prussian Landwehr cavalry, black primer, Liquitex Prussian blue, the one high light of one drop medium blue and two drops Prussian blue.
