High, having recently unburried a large number of Perry medievals I've continued an old projec I had to build both armies for the Fords of the Trident. Fantasy I know, but I tend to try to use Historicals for all but the most fanciful human troop types. In my box of pikemen I found that I had assemble 4 in full harness (using Men-At-Arms bodies) and a note for front rank pikemen. Now I love the Perry plastic infantry, but they have a lack of pike arms with leveled pikes and I really don't want to have to convert too much (the sculpts are too nice for me to want to muck up with a knife or a hack-saw). I guess what I'm asking for is, does anybody sell 28mm Historical Pikemen in Gothic Harness with pikes level? Was this done or is the idea pure fantasy? |

Steel Fist Miniatures has three packs that should be useful and go very nicely with the Perry miniatures. Firstly there are the Swiss front rankers. These have a lot of parts for metal figures, so may take some time to assemble, but it means you can also easily replace the separate halberds with steel pikes, and the separate heads with different helmets styles (Perry plastic sets tend to come with a good number of spare heads). link Then there is the Foot Knights (B) which contains two figures with levelled polearms – replacing these with steel pikes would give you two more front rankers. You will also get two other figures that could be used to provide your unit with a leader and standard bearer. link For a more elaborate style of armour (Maximillian) there is also a pack of armoured front rank Landsknechts: link Steel pikes are available from many sources. If you just need a few, Steel Fist had a pack of 8: link As for the Perrys, they also make packs of unarmoured and armoured halberdiers/pikemen with levelled weapons. I think one of the figures in the armoured men pack (the one with red neck-piece) could work for your needs – though it makes only sense to buy this if you have a use for the rest of the figures in some other unit.

Thanks. I don't know how I missed the Metal front rank halberdiers on the Perry site. I'll probably buy a little bi of three things you linked. |

How large a unit are you planning to put together? If you want only the first rank with levelled pikes, the above should be more than enough. If you are looking for figures with more upright pike poses and full armour for rear ranks, then Crusader Miniatures has a pack in their WotR range, Perrys have a few standard bearers (pack WR37) that might work, and then there is the option to match plastic pike arms from the Mercenaries box with bodies from the plastic men-at-arms box. Finally, Perrys also sculpted a set of Ricco's Republican Guard for GW back in the 90's that should look pretty good with their late 15th century historicals. |

Oh, I know I'll be all set for upright pikes. But I think I'll check the old dogs of war range because I remember a few angled pikes poses. |
