The world-famous U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron — the Blue Angels — is set for a major change following a Monday $17 USD million contract award…

Neat!

When I first saw the headline I thought they might be getting F-35s, but that would be dumb and cost a lot more than $17 USD million. Probably a hundred times as much.

I'm surprised they had trouble finding somewhere to put the smoke trail equipment. The E/F is bigger than the C/D and there's a *lot* of stuff on the E/F that you don't need if no one is shooting at you.

They should go back to flying the Skyhawk.

Too many hours on the Skyhawk airframes, and low-altitude airshow flying is really hard on the plane.

I'm surprised they had trouble finding somewhere to put the smoke trail equipment. The E/F is bigger than the C/D and there's a *lot* of stuff on the E/F that you don't need if no one is shooting at you.

All that stuff that you don't need if no-one is shooting at you has to stay in the plane, the Blue Angels are supposed to be convertable to a combat squadron in less than a week if the sewage hits the turbofan.
