In the search for a set of Skirmish Rules that suit me I've decided to try out about a dozen using the same scenario (the Skirmish Sangin TV crew one in the recent Miniature Wargames). As well as contemporary modern and SF rule sets (I want to cover near/medium future too) I'm also throwing in some old classics, like the Traveller sets (Striker, AHL, Snapshot) and a Paragon WW2 set which used to be our fave set in the mid 70s.

And second using Snapshot at:

If there's interest I'll post the links to others here as I progress, otherwise just check out my blog for further reports.

Cool! Thanks for sharing. I have Danger Close/Some Forgotten Field but haven't had a chance to try them yet. Looking forward to your take on such things.

Thanks. I'm also looking for good skirmish rules for Traveller. I'm going to use the Mongoose Traveller combat rules soon. I'll post an AAR.

Ah, Traveller and Striker.

Must get at least some of my 15mm Sci-Fi forces painted up, since a lot of their drawings and paintings were so inspirational.

How are the Mongoose combat rules?

I generally found the Traveller, and especially Striker rules to be unplayable. The latter was more like a design exercise than a set of rules for combat.

Snapshot was a bit better, for man to man/alien action.

Iron Cow looks promising, as does FUBAR. Will probably go with the latter, at least initially, for game play, since I want to use a mix of Grav Armor and troops. IC covers both, but apparently troops are downplayed a bit in that system, so the armor can really shine.

Howdy,

If you compare later editions of Command Decision, you'll see where some of that design work with Striker led. My opinion, anyway.

Ponder on,

I am a huge fan of FUBAR. There are a load of variants for it available. A new Facebook group has been set up for it.

Always a fan of FUBAR. I'm planning an extreme mod of using FUBAR game mechanics for order actions mixed with 40K stats and resolutions, whilst playing loose with the army lists…
Isn't Iron Cow geared towards 6mm?
