On average, bigger, the same size as, or smaller than a Norseman?

nickinsomerset12 Aug 2018 1:26 a.m. PST

It is fantasy, unless playing to a particular book, as big, small etcas you want..

Depends on the orc.

Frostie12 Aug 2018 4:13 a.m. PST

I think Tolkeinic Orcs would be as tall as a man, but slouch making them look shorter and squatter.
Goblins would be more Dwarf sized.

But as everyone says, they should be as big as you want them to be, and what looks right to you, and don't let anyone tell you you are wrong!!!

Can't rely on fantasy nowadays 😬

I'm with Frostie – different manufacturers make up different tribes. Eureka orcs, Khurasan orcs, Black Raven orcs, Mirliton orcs…..

My orcs are bigger than your orcs …

Sloppypainter12 Aug 2018 6:28 a.m. PST

Never, ever, ask an orc how big he is.

Are we measuring to the top of the head or soles of feet to eyes?

I'd always thought of Tolkien type Orcs as being bigger than goblins but smaller than humans. They are corrupted elves, and elves are little guys…

Half Orcs aka Uruk Hai might get to something approaching man size.

The old Minifigs Middle Earth range got the various height relationships right, unlike the films, especially the ludicrous Orcs in The Hobbit which were the size of Ogres.

Tolkien's exceptionally large individual Orcs are 'almost man-size' so the bulk should be smaller still.

I don't think Tolkien ever pained one for a visual comparison.

Per Wiki, the AD&D male Orc is 5-1/2 feet, to 6 feet tall. Don't have my 1977 AD&D Monster Manual handy to look it up. Sorry.

Figure out your average Human figure size, and buy Orc figures close to Human sizes. That is, if you wish to follow AD&D sizes… Cheers!

33 inches according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_auk oh sorry I misread your post

Depends on the game. Tolkien's orcs are smaller than humans, but the Uruk-hai are about man-sized. D&D orcs, at least the ones up to 2nd Edition, stand about six feet tall. Warhammer orcs are much larger than humans.
