Ah, the C rat! If Amazon only sold C rat ham and eggs. Or John Wayne bars. Or the whole "pound cake" package. (You took pound cake, powdered milk, sugar, and there was some sort of powdered chocolate you could get every now and then. Given a little time, you could get a pretty good chocolate frosting on your pound cake.) Oddly, I feel no similar nostalgia for the dehydrated pork patty MRE. But I think in an emergency you could put a pretty decent edge on one. |

There are still unopened tinned Emergency Rations from the Boer War in a few collections, but I don't think anyone is going to give them a taste test. |

The chicken curry in 1970s Compo was excellent. |

For us, on the quick side, match up someone with the pound cake and someone with the fruit cocktail. By the way, apparently, the MRE is about to receive an upgrade with the most requested item………..pizza! |

Yes, all us old guys remember the C-Rat … but not always "fondly" … But no doubt I did like the MREs better generally …

I had some LRRPs too when I was in the 101. Pretty good, but yes they did take a lot of water. But still would have rather had LRRPs than C-Rats. |
