Some of us might like to actually attend your smaller local cons and shows and aren't previously aware of them, but would need more than 2 to 3 weeks to make arrangements. It would be nice if you gave us more than a couple of weeks notice for upcoming cons and shows so we can plan on the trip. Otherwise, I guess we're not going. I mean, I'm sure you booked the gaming rooms at the hotel before last week. |

Good point. Also, please make it a point to tell WHERE the con is. I don't know the number of times I've had to search to find out. |

Anyone running a show in the should consider letting the Newark Irregulars know – their calendar is the best one I know of: partizan.org.uk/events.php |

Might be interesting to see a calendar of cons and shows on here for those who might want to attend or host. |

Beast, yes – absolutely! There are a number of posts made that leave out important details. Where is that con being held? Are those figures 15 or 28? Etc. |

Duly noted. Here in NW Ohio we run two historical war gaming conferences each year. We've been lucky enough to partner with a local historical site. The Fort Meigs State Memorial has a Visitor Center that is perfect for our small shows. (www.fortmeigs.org) Our two-day show, "Drums at the Rapids" is always on Armed Forces Day in May.(look it up). Our Fall one-day show, "The World at War" is always on the first Saturday in November. If I've learned anything after running war gaming conventions for over twenty years is this….NEVER change the date. You can change location, even move to a different city but don't dance around the calendar, you will lose your attendees. |

Ok, so I live in Southern Ontario. It's easy to keep track of the local cons as they have a lot of internet presence. For the US cons I simple figure out the closest HMGS chapters. For me that is HMGS, HMGS-Great Lakes and HMGS-Midwest. Then go to their websites and all will be revealed. I need to make my plans waaaaay in advance. |

Bowman, I'm close enough to come to cons in southern Ontario. If I heard about them more than two or three weeks in advance. And I'd rather go support a smaller local con with my money than HMGS. In fact, what spurred this post was the post about the con in Hamilton. I would happily drive up to Hamilton for a weekend, but it would have been nice to hear about it a couple of months ago rather than two weeks in advance. |

Again, duly noted. Trumpeter Salute in Vancouver BC is annual. I'll ensure I post 3/4 weeks in advance. |

I've already posted announcements for Barrage. It is in Havre de Grace, Maryland, on 28 and 29 September. See hawks-barrage.org. |

The dates for 2019 AND 2020 for both HMGS-South conventions (RECON and HURRICON) are posted on our website: hmgs-south.com We also include future dates on our advertising hand outs. When we sign the 2021 contract we will add that. |

Southern Front has been held for a VERY long time in or near Raleigh NC. The date is USUALLY mid-September and this year's dates are 9/21-23. Front is a miniatures convention although the organizers don't mind the odd BG or two. Focus is HM but other genres are respected and accepted. Front features outstanding games with superb terrain. Details, especially venue, as well as registration and game submission info can be found at link |

As I am just getting back into gaming and cons for me nowadays have to be local take this with a grain of salt. Back in the day it took half a year's notice to set up schedules and accomodations. Yes you can attend with under a month's notice IF the local hotels aren't booked, you have flexible vacation arrangements, etc.. If the cons want attendance give MONTHS notice! Also all those after the con reports rarely give the location past the name of the con. Cancon sounds like something in Canada with nothing in the report contents giving any info away. Until you look up the poster and THEY are from Canberra do you have any clue. Also as above how about some useful info with those pics like scale, rules, etc.. Thank you. |

Salutations, gentlefolk ! I agree that having an 'upcoming events calendar', or at least a special Message Board, on TMP would be a good idea (he says, knowing he won't be doing the work programming it…) Still, event organizers should post the word – who, what, when, where, why – as soon as definite, and add planned events, GoogleMap coordinates, websites of local tourist bureau and nearby hotels, etc. Put out updates at least every two weeks, let people know //that you're still alive// your progress. Start your 'where' section with country (continent?) & state – there are multitudinous places in English-speaking world sharing their name with Somewhere Else. Get word out via every way you can think of – can you print up some notices and get local stores, library, etc, to stick them up in window ? Mayhaps someone down the block has had a sand table in basement since Jack Scruby was a pup… Good luck ! |

Regional subfolders? If we can have that for rules why not cons and clubs? |

This is the proper location to post your events. The key is for the convention organizers to remember to post timely announcements. Large events need to be out in front by at least six months. I always have flyers for the next show at the current one. After all, these are the people most likely to attend. I've spoken to some gamers that have to schedule time off from their job a year in advance. Keep this in mind when planning your media announcements. |

It maybe the proper place to post about it but it sure isn't adequate, the signal to noise ratio is quite bad. With a tad of elbow grease on the part of TMP we could have a folder of its own called "conventions, events and clubs" broken into subfolders of nation, region, state/county and finally even by city if so warranted. This would put a nice channeling filter in place for the traveling gamer. I would pay for such a bulletin board. Sub folders would also reduce volume of posts needed, since Australian posts would not be pushed off the visible splash screen under the deluge of American or British posts all in the same folder. The USA really needs regional or state sub folders of its own to be useful. |

Bowman, I'm close enough to come to cons in southern Ontario. If I heard about them more than two or three weeks in advance. Sundance, Hotlead is the biggest convention in southern Ontario. It is held once per year. They have a year long presence on the internet, if you have Facebook. link If not, it is held Friday, March 29 – Sunday, March 31, 2019. The hosting hotel is here: link In fact, what spurred this post was the post about the con in Hamilton. To be fair, Broadsword has been announced a while ago, but on Facebook. link Perhaps the organizer should come onto TMP as soon as they post on FB. A lot of people don't use FB. Hope that helps. |

Sundance, you're right. I should have posted the event notification for Broadsword sooner than I did. Broadsword is essentially a one man outfit and it simply slipped my mind. We have another event confirmed for late November, once Broadsword 6 is out of the way, I'll post up the details for Broadsword 7. |
