Sad but in several excercises during the late 1970s, units that I worked with had French reinforcements enter the excercises. Never ended well.
They entered closing in on a flank position. Due to radio frequency problems there was no commo between either side. Upon the non-response and the none American tanks, the French got mauled frequently.

Having been stationed in Europe in the 80s, I was never sure which side the French would be on, NATO or Warsaw Pact.

There's a pretty strong Communist Party in France, and the politicians are never happy about US troops in France, Armand.

On the other hand, Buck, the Soviets had the same problem with the Poles. It was an even bet whether the Poles would march west or east if the ball went up (and boy, wouldn't an entire Army Group rampaging around the supply lines mess up Army Group North planning!)

Yes surdu, when I was at VII Corps HQ, there were discussions about the French policy of launching nukes into Germany before the Soviets reached the Franco-German border.
During tabletop excercises when we looked at plans for possible retreat and where additional locations were for setting up new HQ locations. French locations were regarded as iffy.

Ah!… thanks for the explanation my friend…

When I was in France… I never understand well why the bad feelings against USA… in comparison … they showed much more "love" to the Germans and although it does not seem it … to the English … also there was a deep contempt for the Italians ….
