In my area, after the "Last Jedi" debacle and the X-Wing re-reboot, most of the people I know quit X-Wing / Armada.

Nobody has any interest to follow up.

What does it look like around your gaming community?

Mike Target05 Aug 2018 3:28 a.m. PST

still seems strong here, though i think the reboot has been utterly ignored…

Cornelius05 Aug 2018 3:32 a.m. PST

We're still playing Armada … but the recently announced Super Star Destroyer at USD200 is a joke IMHO.

I'm not in a 'gaming community' but I still play X-Wing from time-to-time with friends. Can't imagine getting 2nd edition though.

beausant05 Aug 2018 5:53 a.m. PST

2nd edition will revitalize a very popular game system that was affected by points/special rules creep by rebalancing the game.

Dynaman878905 Aug 2018 5:55 a.m. PST

I was about to buy it till the cash grab reboot announcement. Now I have to wait to see if it flops and which version people play.

Todd63605 Aug 2018 5:56 a.m. PST

I looked at some of the 2nd edition changes. Some are interesting, but I don't think I will make the conversion. At this point it would be way too much money and I enjoyed the rules as it. Maybe a house rule here and there.

myxemail05 Aug 2018 6:02 a.m. PST

We are still playing up here in Maine. There is also excitement for the second edition.

jdpintex05 Aug 2018 6:11 a.m. PST

Still playing; however totally ignoring the 2nd edition

I enjoy playing occasionally, and have no intention of going 2nd edition, which seems aimed at competition play, where balance is very important.

Daithi the Black05 Aug 2018 7:50 a.m. PST

It's still going strong here in Sin City

My wife and I still play it from time to time…

I'm thinking of buying the "upgrade sets for 2nd edition" not because I have the 1st edition miniatures, but because I bought tons of WotC Star Wars minis which we can bring into 2nd edition with the new dials and other doo-dads.

Sold off my X-Wing stuff earlier in the Summer. Still have Armada because that's the game I really want to play, but not many seem to be playing it around here.

Still play. Won't be getting 2nd or the conversions, as I'm more of a scenario maker than a competitive tournament type.
While the last movie put me off of the current storyline films, and I haven't bothered to see Solo, there's little they can do to end my love for the original movie and its era (especially sense I have the original theatrical release DVD, with no extra crap and Han shooting first and only). So I'll keep playing X-Wing with what I have, no matter what either Lucas or Disney puts on a screen. (But they won't sell me anything from Johnson's bomb. They got me for a ticket price, and that's all.)
Don't really know why anyone would stop playing a game they already have, just because a random sequel to the film the game is based on sucks. Might as well not play Wings of Glory because Flyboys stank. Who cares about the film if the game is good?

+1
The Battle of the Bulge movie is one of the all time worst WWII movies. That doesn't seem to have impacted gaming any.
And The Patriot hasn't dimmed my AWI enthusiasm.

This thread really does seem to be about sheep.

Borderguy19005 Aug 2018 3:55 p.m. PST

Yup. Gleefully and with lots of sound effects. On the fence for 2nd Ed as I have 2-8 of every ship and frequently host campaigns involving all of my ships. That's like 2 of each conversion kit, and $300 USD seems steep.

But, that said, I will continue to buy the ships I like and add them to the stories and campaigns I play.

skinkmasterreturns05 Aug 2018 7:54 p.m. PST

Still like Armada, haven't played in a long time, but only because I've been into other projects. So far as I'm concerned the only connection between us the game and movie is the name of Star Wars. That being said, let some lose enthusiasm, it can lead to bargains for the rest of us.

Mr Steve06 Aug 2018 3:38 a.m. PST

I will continue to play X-Wing with my friends using average skilled pilots the same as we did from the very start but we won't be converting over to 2nd edition due to the cost involved. Unfortunately the introduction of 2nd edition means we will stop buying ships but perhaps that's for the best as it was getting a bit out of hand. If Ares games ever gets Battlestar Gallactica up and running than I can see another arms race starting.

Thomas O06 Aug 2018 8:06 a.m. PST

Still plan on playing version 1, but will not convert to the updated version 2. Like and play Armada also but the new $200 USD ship is a joke.

Thomas Thomas06 Aug 2018 11:03 a.m. PST

Just saw a well attented tournamet in Atlanta held at GigaBytes Gaming Cafe.

They were giving out 2nd Edition box sets as prizes. Interest seemed high.

All agree that card creep has gotten so bad as to require a complete reboot (its why I stopped playing). We have entered a design era where most game have become you and your opponent both reading your special rule paragraph and you hoping yours is more broken then his/hers.

I'm a big Ice and Fire/miniature gamer but the new system by CMON follows this exact pattern – nonsense mechanics with a bunch of sperical power cards. At least the figures are nice and of course I'll use them in Knights & Knaves – but all I could think was here we go again when I read the rules.

At least X-Wing had excellent base mechanics which is why I'll be getting second edition. But I do feel a bit like Charlie Brown lining up to kick that football…

I lost interest in X-Wing quite a while ago (and the movies had no impact whatsoever) but I still like and play Armada.

Howler10 Aug 2018 7:52 p.m. PST

Still play and look forward to second ed. Curious about the app and what it contributes to the game. Wish I could avoid the upgrade cost.
