Talk with people who's figures you admire. Read up on painting them in books published by various manufacturers. Take a few chances with some figs. (Acrylic paint can be removed should you trials turn out that bad.) Practice.

Get a colour wheel and learn how to "break" a pure colour with its opposite. Learn about triad combinations.

Just paint, get good lights, proper spectacles and best brushes you can afford. (and I really dislike triad painting, just not subtle)

For me before i start something new i always say to myself "you only have to paint it once and enjoy it forever"

So, don't rush it and enjoy doing it.

And also….be a paint brush snob. I will only ever use sable hair brushes. If you buy cheap you get cheap….

The colour wheel suggestions is really good. I honestly think the Windsor and Newton series 7 sable brush thing isn't hype – they carry paint and flows from them beautifully.

They also make great presents for you! amzn.to/2Pl7jRV
