Direct comparison between Fernando Enterprises and PhilGreg Painters. I have sent 28mm Figures to Fernando Enterprises (http://www.miniaturelovers.com) in Sri Lanka about every other year for the past 18, but in 2017, decided to try out PhilGreg Painters (http://miniatures-philgreg.com/index.html). Both of those figure-painting companies are based near one another in Sri Lanka, and both have very similar pricing for painting 28mm figures. Fernando ‘28mm Collector Quality' $1.70 USD each, with quantity discounts PhilGreg ‘25mm Collector Quality' $1.50 USD each For a direct comparison between the two, I sent seven figures to Fernando with Foundry website photographs of the painted figures to copy. Eighteen months later, I sent seven identical figures to PhilGreg with the identical photographs and instructions. Neither supplier was aware that a direct comparison was planned. Each performed believing that these figures were just one ‘lot' of a normal order. Since there are SO many different wargame periods, and war-gamers are uninterested in painted military figures if they had little interest in the period they represent, I chose 28mm female Victorian Civilian figures manufactured by Foundry from the packs VC004 Ladies, VC005 Ladies of the Night, and VC031 Armed Ladies of the Night. The photographs supplied for copying can be seen on this and a following page of the Foundry website: link It should be borne in mind that these figures represent the painting of only a single painter at each company, and that painters can have bad days and good days. Therefore these samples can present only a glimpse of comparative quality, and can by no means be considered a complete and thorough comparison of the capabilities of the two services. 11

I've been using Philgreg lately and I'm very pleased at how well they communicate. They contact me if they have a question about my painting instructions and get back to me quickly when I email them. How would you compare Philgreg and Fernando in terms of how they communicted with their clients? |

Chick, thanks much for doing this. It's great to see a comparison of two different painters. Once upon a time when the courier was being printed, Dick Bryant and I had talked about doing such a thing. But never got to it :-( Did each of the painting services Give you an opportunity to view them online and make changes? where the postage costs comparable. That is to either one try to make a little money on the postage cost? I have sent hundreds of figures to Fernando in the last 15 years, maybe more and have always been satisfied with the product. |

Robert, both services communicated very well, and were about equally responsive. Bob, the Fernando service sent me photos of every single lot ahead of shipment and an opportunity to request changes. At Philgreg, I got advance photos of about twenty out of seventy lots, the others not seen until they arrived in California. Postage charges were effectively identical, and iirc, both used the same courier service, Aramex, to get my figures back to me. |

The only difference I see in the side by side comparison is that the Fernando faces are much much better. The Philgregg faces look crazy with smeared makeup and eyeballs staring in different directions. |

Thanks for posting this— Just this morning I was thinking of searching to see if anyone had posted such a comparison! I suspect the face thing is a particular painter. I did one order, my first, with PhilGreg this spring and the faces did not look like the ones in this batch. I have a second one out with them now. I've been thinking of sending the next order to Fernando for comparison. |

I believe the owners at PhilGreg formerly worked at Fernando, which explains the similarity in style. |

I just got a order from PhilGreg back for some Samurai which were done above average. I have ordered from Fernando for 20 years and just thought I would give them a try. |
