I don't know why this crazy idea suddenly came to me …

Perhaps it was the discovery of a single piece of lichen left behind in a box when we cleaned up after the flood last August. The poor little piece of lichen (deer moss) looked sad, as if it was simply a husk of its former self, as if it needed to be inflated and strengthened with something from the inside out.

Perhaps using a thin needle (diabetic syringe?), and starting with the secondary branches, work the glue down inside the trunk towards the opening at the bottom?

QUESTIONS
A) Has anyone ever tried to do such a mad scientist experiment?
B) Did you use PVA or something completely different?
C) Most importantly, did it hold its shape for any significant amount of time?
D) Was the experiment easy and worth the trouble?

Dan
PS. I'm not trying to conserve the color. I'm more interested in simply preserving and hardening the cool structure of the Alien-like branches (at least the main ones).

I have sprayed lichen With the varnish after placing it on bases or in scenery. this preserves it quite nicely. Dry lichenI grind up in my wargame dedicated food processor, to make a nice flocking.

Just the opposite.
I've soaked my lichen in a water/glycerin mix to keep it soft.

Soak the lichen in Matte Medium and your problem is solved.

When they are brittle they seem to fall apart. I usually mist them with water and they come back to flexibly pliant life.

UPDATE

Ok. My original idea was a bust. However … I went ahead and dropped some white-ish lichen into a cup with a couple of drops of Liquitex acrylic inks and a 50/50 mix of PVA and water.

So far it looks quite good! I'll take pics.
