Astonishingly futuristic new tech creates a seemingly invisible, impenetrable, protective bubble around military armored vehicles making enemy attempts to fire at U.S. tanks pretty pointless – those rounds won't hit the tank, they'll explode mid-air…

Don't be astonished. This APS kit premiered in 2009 so it ain't futuristic, it's almost ancient.

Here are a few APSs in existence (yes, the bad guys also deploy it):
Akkor Active Protection System (Turkey)
GL5 Active Protection System (China)
AMAP-ADS Active Protection System (Germany)
Arena active protection system (Russia)
Drozd active protection system (Russia)
Iron Curtain active protection system (United States)
Iron Fist active protection system (Israel)
LEDS active protection system (Sweden/South Africa)
Quick Kill active protection system (United States)
Trophy active protection system (Israel)
Zaslon Active Protection System (Ukraine)
Sarab Active Protection System (Syria)

Except IED's.

Oh, we have various tools to mess up IEDs, too. radio jammers, IR decoys, even voltage-induction setups to set off the charge before a car gets within danger range (they're all public knowledge items).

Not to forget the basic drone flying point to look for miscreants setting the IEDs in the first place.

And an EOD team leading the convoy.
