The Korean army of the Japanese invasion period outclassed the Samurai in one area in particular and that was arty. They had all shapes and sizes including the infamous rocket launcher variety (which the Perry's ably cover). What I can't locate is the regular arty types from small to large that were featured in nearly every battle with the Japanese. The closest thing to a substitute I've come across is the Perry Saker in their amazing Samurai line. This lack of standard Korean arty and the lack of a real Ming line of minis are about the only two things holding me back from gaming this conflict. If anyone has suggestions for Proxy Korean guns (in 28mm) I'd appreciate any tips. Cheers. |

You can use Chinese Ming bugs. the hardest to recreate would be the box-rocket launcher which was used at both sieges and field battles. It launched dozens of arrows at the enemy. |

Guns and crew not bugs. grumble. |

Hey Rudy! Thanks for your reply. Was there a specific mini maker that does Ming arty in 28mm? I wasn't aware of any so it would make my day if there is some. I wish the was an entire line of Ming but I'll settle for some arty! |

Btw, there is a 2nd Samurai gun out there besides the Perry one that could be proxied as Korean. link |

Uesugi Kenshin can you be specific about what you are looking for? If you have images I could make some printable models (if they aren't too complex) |

Hey Brother, I'll try. So from what I recall the Koreans had probably 1/2 a dozen different artillery types but these can be more easily broken down into the following catagories: -Ultra-light, -light, -medium, -heavy -siege (mortar) -and multiple rocket launcher. The Perrys make 2 of the rocket launcher variety so those are covered. I don't need any siege artillery so that just leaves me needing the light, medium and heavy artillery. I only recall 2 sources of pictures for these, neither of which I have in front of me at the moment. Brian Bradfords "Korean Invasion" supplement for the Killer Katanas rule set has some great info on the guns. The only other source I've seen are artistic renderings of Admiral Yi's fleet, most of which carried cannons. On the ships I recall the guns being classified by color rather than weight (ie, a ship carried 12 "black" cannon and 4 "yellow", etc, if my memory serves me). I'll see if I can stir up some pictures on the Web today. |

The old Scheltrum Range had Korean artillery. If I remember right they had Ming artillery too. Their figures are not everyone taste but the cannons and their Japanese Siege pieces were excellent pieces. I am not sure the range still is excisting but you can try to find them in Internet. |

Hey Bro, here's what a quick Web search came up with. Mostly cannon on the smaller side. The Wiki article actually does a much better job describing them than I did: link link link link link |

The trick was 28 since several companies like old glory 15, falcon, minifig and others had them in 15. |

Yep. My first foray in Samurai era armies in 28mm. I'm really surprised the Perry's did not complete their otherwise excellent Imjin line with more Korean arty and a Ming line. Oh well. I'll make do. |

I think that's enough to get started with. So long as there's some measurements to work with I can have a go at making these in sketchup, and then maybe put them up on Shapeways so you can print them out (or if you have another way of printing them we could try that). So if we try the cheonja-chongtong with missile and carriage, if that works the others are quite similar. Perhaps one of the bell shaped mortars too? |

Weren't the Chong-tong naval guns on the Turtle ships? |

I've started in on this today with the heavy cheonja-chongtong . For the carriage seen here link Would I be right in assuming that its best as a single piece, wheels and all? Presumably moving wheels aren;t required? (I'd strongly recommend against them for printing). |
