Having played with all the usual suspects of nations and gear, eventually it becomes interesting to do something else. It was therefore a good move when QRF released the Swedish strv 103 and pbv 302, making it possible to see different stuff on the table.

However, it is difficult to get that true Swedish feeling without the addition of at least a few vehicles. The results are Far From Perfect, and as always the photos reveal more than can be seen at arm's length. But at the table they do play the part.

First the Personlastterränbil 903 or Pltgb 903. This was a small off-road vehicle designed to transport a small unit of men. With 141 of these vehicles in each armored brigade they were seen everywhere. In combat roles they would carry for instance recce troops, artillery observers, and even the CO of the tank companies rode one of these, at least in peacetime.

Normally the Swedish did not name their kit, but the 903 became vernacularly known as "Valpen", "The Puppy", due to its small size and big feet.

More important, and certainly unsurpassed in cute coolness, is the Pansarvärnspjästerrängbil 9031 or Pvpjtgb 9031. It was based on the chassis of the 903, and armed with a 9 cm recoilless anti-tank gun, the Pvpj 1110:

Every Swedish armoured infantry company with 11 APC's had a platoon of four of these vehicles attached. The brigade had a total of 36 of these vehicles.

These things almost beg some playing around with the bits box. Here a raiding unit with various weapons, which would be nice for some imaginary skirmish somewhere. With their black vehicles and uniforms these men apparently prefer to call in at night:

The infantry relied more on the Carl Gustav, but also had a few of the 9 cm AT gun at higher command levels. The artillery tractor of the infantry was in fact an agricultural tractor, here from QRF:

This project has taken a while to figure out and complete. Although they are certainly not pieces of modelling art, I am pretty content with the results, and I am sure that they will be good fun to field on the table.

Once I get everything else completed

Lovely stuff! My group are thinking about a cold war gone hot kind of scenario in Sweden but have not yet decided on scale. 15mm certainly looks promising.

Are these 3D printed?

I wouldn't mind grabbing a couple of those 903 transports. Very cool looking.

A derivative of the Volvo L3314 apparently:

@Buckeye: Agreed: If I ever needed an off roader IRL, the 903 would be my vehicle of choice. In 15 mm I made them mainly for my own amusement. I do have a few extras which may end up on ebay some day, though.

@dragon6: No printing. These are made from old fashioned styrene masters and cast in resin. The tractor towed gun is a miscast, which was relegated to infantry duties.

@Thomas: Thanks. When you do have a go at it, please find somewhere to post battle reports from a Swedish campaign. I suppose that the fullest range of Swedish stuff right now is in 3 mm: Those little things are mighty fine, still easy to proxy, and very well suited for large scale engagements. I for one would like to know how a full Infantry Brigade on bicycles and tractors would have fared against an armoured attacker.

For 15mm there is not a lot, and very little of the characteristically Swedish stuff. So far I have found:

Tanks:
strv 81: QRF/STT
strv 101/102: QRF/STTFOWFOW
strv 101R/102R/104: An Israeli Sho't with ERA must be rather similar(?)
Strv 103: QRF/TSS
Missing:
Assault guns/Infantry support (any of Ikv 72/102/103, Ikv 73, Sav m/43, strv 74, Pvkv m/43)

APC's
Pbv 302: QRF/TSS
Epbv 3022: QRF/TSS
(Apparently only five of the Sjuktppbv 3026 were ever made.)
Missing: Pbv 301 (For those of us who like cool recycling projects.)

Artillery:
8 cm mortar: Plenty
12 cm mortar: Plenty
10,5 cm Haubits m/39: Plenty (=leFH18)
10,5 cm Haubits m/40: Like this one, but with new wheels QRF/TSS?
15 cm Haubits m/39: Like this, but loose the shield, and change the wheels QRF/TSS? Or proxy withFOW?
15,5 cm haubits F: FOW, when they reissue it.
7,5 cm kanon m/02 For local defence units: PP (37. Belgian 1905 Krupp gun)
Missing:
10,5 cm Haubits 4140 (Used by Armoured brigades. Looks good.)

Transports:
Bicycles: PP and PP
Tractors: QRF/TSS
BV 202/206: Proxy with OG
Missing:
All those characteristic Volvo trucks and transports. And the omnipresent 1 tons tractor trailer.

Personnel:
I am still trying to figure out which figures to proxy with. Suggestions are welcomed.

Ooooh, I'd be in for a few of those! A platoon of the 9031s and a couple 903s.

wardog05 Aug 2018 12:00 p.m. PST

what happened with the infantry armyarmies and qrf were working on them while back

Lion in the Stars05 Aug 2018 6:23 p.m. PST

QRF made the S-tank and Pbv302 APCs, AA was working on infantry. Not much demand.
