It is said the Chevau legers took a helmet of carabiniers' style, but any difference between them? I only know there are sealskin turbans on the helmets of Chevau legers. |

Here is a great site for all uniforms present at Waterloo: link You can see that the helmets of the Carabiniers are metal, while the helmets of the Chevaux-Legeres have the "turbans". Hope this helps ! |

It so much depends on the scale and what you are trying to do. If, say, in 28mm you want to convert Perry plastic Carabinier heads to Line Lancers ….easy. Add the turban in Greenstuff or some such, few seconds work. Black leather peak, rest in brass. Warlord do them already of course. Lancers to Carabiniers much harder and, in metal, maybe impossible, realistically. The Carabiniers' helmet did have a more elegant shape to it….but that will hardly show in most wargame scales

Actually I am planning to paint Perry carabinier as Westphalian cuirassier. But my friend told me the helmet of Westphalian cuirassier is the style of French chevau leger, not carabinier. Any friends know which conversion is better? |

Matsukaze: I did some simple but I believe accurate conversion of the Perry French heavy horse plastics to Westphalian 2nd Cuirassiers (the 1st is totally different) you can see here: link |

That is a very interesting conversion shown above. It is a very good point that the Cuirassier helmet works better than the "Minerva" style of the Carabiniers. The Elegant look involves that backward slope typical of Greek antiquity. The lancers/ cuirassier/1st Chasseurs Royalist helmets are all more upright. Officers tended to the expensive look of course! More work to create the comb instead of the horsetail, but the end result is very convincing.

Auld Minis. Nice conversions. But can I check on those orange saddle clothes please? I know the trumpeters did use orange, as per their tunic, but the other pics I find show blue saddle cloths for the troopers etc. Just checking as they are on my 1812 list to do and so any sources are appreciated. Thanks Marc |

Marc, the saddle cloths for cuirassier troopers are orange, just the same as the trumpeters'. The blue ones are for their officers. |

Auld Minis, excellent conversion! The conversion for 1st cuirassier rgt can be harder. I hate the cutting work. |
