I have received some complaints from members who click on links in the forums, only to find themselves at news websites which they object to. Currently, long URLs appear on the forum as the word 'link' which is clickable. This is done because a long URL can make a topic too wide to be readable. In a few cases, we have added more explanation. For example, a link that goes somewhere else on TMP says 'TMP link'. And a link to YouTube says 'YouTube link'. We could, on a case by case basis, add descriptives for certain news websites. So, for example, it could say 'New York Times link' or 'Fox News link'. Or, for all links, we could parse out the domain name. So, for instance, it could say 'nytimes.com link'. Or we could leave things the way they are. Your input? |

I doubt that whatever you do will satisfy all. IMHO you should leave the link alone and ask everyone to be clear about what it represents. Your nytimes.com is OK but sort of weak. Require people to specify where a link leads to. |

Alternately, we could add line breaks to the long URLs so that the displayed text is not disruptively long. Also note that currently, if you hover the cursor over the word 'link', it shows you the entire URL. Example: link |

Oh, stop pandering and catering to Snowflakes who get their panties in a wad when they click on a link that does not match their political litmus test. Tell them to put their Big Boy Pants on. Harrumph. |

For me, t'ain't too much trouble to hover over the link and read the full URL. Leave it as is |

Hovering the cursor over the word "link" shows you all you need to know whether your a Snowflake or a Broflake. |

Me, too. Fine with hovering, I mean. Maybe do some outreach on the hover function so that the snowflakes remember it. |

The ED introduced me to FOXNEWS through this site, I survived. Life is an adventure, what doesn't lock up your PC with ransomware makes you stronger. All you need to know. "What you're seeing and what you're reading is not what's happening." |

I think that whenever a reader hovers over a link embedded in your site, you should get an alert signal, jump in your helicopter, fly to their location, then sit down with them and explain how computers work and what the implications of them clicking on a link are in person. That, or nuke them from orbit. |

Hover does not work well for touch screen devices. I do not care what is decided but I think this needed pointed out. x42 |

Is "Close the new window, or hit the BACK button and get on with your life", not an option? |

x42brown is correct. However, no matter how low I put the sensitivity, my touchscreen is too sensitive to allow typing – so I turned it off. Got rid of all the fingermarks as well… |
