The closest I came was to use the rules for SPI's Sniper! as the basis for a miniatures game. I just substituted inches for hexes, and used 1/32 scale Airfix troops (British paratroopers and German infantry). It played OK, as I recall. I also tried 1/72 Airfix British commandos and German mountain troops. I recall that that was less satisfactory because both inches and centimeters seemed too big for hexes, and so I had to do a lot of conversion calculations. The biggest issue was probably space. I had to lay out the city on my dorm room floor. |

First try was Kingmaker in an early dba attempt – biggest issue was field all the nobles – didnt really have a miniatures feel. The cards worked well – but the I needed the map for more of the campaign and the combat rules didnt give me enough – so used it for a campaign and used dba for the miniatures Second attempt was using miniatures with Close Assault WWII and Fire Power – Vietnam – Worked well – though you have to clearly have facings – and translate hexes to inches for movement, fire and the like – which I suspect for any hex game you would have to do – unless using a system like To the Strongest |

I am in the process of making Avalon Hills Alesia into a minis game. I am using Baccus ancients and 1.5 inch hexes. It will be glorious. |

One of the biggest issues is that boardgames usually allow stacking of more than one unit in a hex. The minis version would either have to use bigger hexes or not allow stacking. |

I think that one board game that would be easily adaptable for use with miniatures is Wooden Ships and Iron Men. |

Started an attempt to convert AH's "Arab- Israeli Wars" to 1/300 minis; the idea was to create a more universal modern game that could be used for NW European actions. I decided to modify combat results, ditching the odds table, and using a "simple" combat factor superiority calculation. It never reached the playtest stage and some 15 years later is still a work in progress. |

I think there used to be a game called "Fury of the Norsemen" that my brother an I tried to translate into miniature gaming. Geesh, it feels so long ago now. I had forgotten all about that too. Dan |

The local group did the whole Punic Wars with Command and Colors – Ancients converted to 15mm on a 4 x 8 foot table with hexes. Avalon Hills Midway game is pretty much a miniatures game as is and I have played it with miniatures. I turned The Creature the Ate Sheboygan in to a miniatures game complete with large dino models and a whole town of foam buildings. My favorite is The Awful Green Things from Outer Space. First I made a 28mm blow up of the ship and then one of our group made appropriate figures. Later on I did a 3-D model with Playmobil figures.
nothing as good as this one, link |

Have done this with a few games and they played really well: Wooden Ships and Iron Men (Avalon Hill) with a hex mat and 1/1200 ships from Nawar Flight Leader (Avalon Hill) with a hex mat and 1/300 jet models
B-17 (Avalon Hill) with 1/300 plane models on flight stands

I found a link to the game my brother and I used to play: link Of course the copy we had back then was just a black and white paper booklet, without the fancy cover art you see there. Dan |

My dad built the Siege! castle and the town from Cry Havoc as well as terrain boards for everything except the camp. We played that at many HMGS cons especially before they moved to Lancaster. I also tried Sniper using dots at based an inch apart. Our club did Kingmaker, but all the battles were fought on the table. |

Our group napoleonics rules used the old SPI Wellington's Victory for the initial base. Add in the old SPI CA naval game and War in the Pacific sequence of play thoughts and that is our game for the last 40 years. In play since 1977 with 25mm/28mm miniatures, 1:100 miniature ratio and 50 yds to tabletop inch. With the current member miniature collections almost any major battle can be conducted on the expandable tabletop with the actual units… at battalion level, for most periods from FRW to Waterloo.. Completely different from the must have large battalion unit sizes currently in rules fashion….. if you can paint them. Also have used Wooden Ships and Iron Men for 1/1200 naval battles and original Kingmaker, using WRG 5th Ed. with mods, with Irish and Scottish region expansions, and AH advance play card deck for campaign medieval games. |

Ogre. The Ogre Miniatures are excellent, but when bringing new players into the game the board game version is easier. I made some maps with 2" hexes so there's plenty of room, but that makes the G.E.V. map really large… |

Using scenarios from AH or SPI games we thought about adapting to our SF minigames. E.g. T34/85 MBT = GW Epic Lemon Russ MBT … |

All of the Commands & Colors/Battle Cry ACW games are easy conversions to miniatures games on a hex mat. I have done this myself. I have also used my 15mm WW2 minis to play Memoir '44 games on a hex mat. |

Back in my high school days, my friends and I used AH Midway rules for miniatures game as well. We also tried AH Panzerleader, but decided to stick to Angriff! |

Panzer/88/Armor (Yaquinto) – MBT/IDF (Avalon Hill) – new Panzer & MBT (GMT). Actually Panzer was converted to miniatures by the author (and is still available link ) But being familiar with the existing cards we used them. And now the newest ones are easier still. |
