These are all Foundry castings. I'm guessing here, but the gold buttons are probably British. The blue ramrods also. I'm thinking the rest are Continentals? It looks as if these were painted long before washes and dips became fashionable. Unless someone has a better idea, I'll probably use my last pot of Devlan Mud on these guys. I have a tin of Army painter Soft Tone. I wonder if that would be better? Thoughts? url=https://postimg.cc/image/kct5iy323/]

I usually wash my figures with FUTURE floor wax with a drop or two of Army Painter Strong Tone and Dark Tone mixed in. When dry, I wash with with Vallejo Matt Varnish, again with a drop or two of Army Painter Strong Tone and Dark Tone mixed in. I wish the Games Workshop washes were easier to come by. I long ago used up the last of my CITADEL WASHES Orgryn Flesh, which I liked. |

From my most recent research (just finishes a bunch of AWI gunners), the Royal Artillery normally had yellow tape on their cocked hats and the Continentals had white tape. Jim |

I use army painter dips on my awi collection. But i only use the darkest one because the others are too brown for my tastes. The issue is that awi uniforms are such bright, bold colors, so i always highlight after. |

I'm curious. When did washes become fashionable? I've been using washes and dry brush techniques practically since I started painting. |

I simply treat artillerists as interchangeable, British or American. I'm not really hung up on carriage color either. |

Rich, Good painters always knew bout washes and dips. However, I think that when companies, primarily GW, began to offer premixed washes, that the "wash" took off. I could be mistaken, but I think that the LOTR Line had a lot to do with it. I still relish having those great paints that GW produced for the LOTR figures. Graveyard Earth Bleached Bone Snakebit Leather Back when those paints were available, there was Devlan Mud, Bedab Black, Orgryn Flesh and other pre-mixed washes included in the line. Anyway, that's my guess. |

I don't think they were for the LOTR figures. Those are Warhammer paints. |

John Could be. All my LOTR painting guides from White Dwarf use these colors, so I guessed. Never knew anything about Warhammer. |
