Does anyone know who carried Washington's personal flag? This would be the flue field with six sided stars. Officer? Enlisted man? What uniform? Any help appreciated. |

So here is one of the few pieces of artwork that shows the flag with Washington, but I can't tell who is supposed to be carrying it?

Have you tried Washington's papers at the LOC or Mount Vernon? |

I need to kick this over to one of the FB groups. I love the painting I posted as you can't see who is carrying the flag. it just seems to be hovering there. Most colours were carried by a junior officer (ensign in the army or coronet in the cavalry). I am guessing this would be done by one of his staff officers. I'm looking to make a command grouping with Washington and this flag. I believe the brown coated cavalryman behind Washington is part of the Philadelphia Associators cavalry, but I doubt they would have carried his personal colour. |
