How about using a Hebrew festival--The Tenth day of the Seventh month..the Day of Atonement

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian24 Jul 2018 10:50 a.m. PST

The day TMP started, founding day so to speak.

Probably in May, exact date no longer known.

Bigus Dickus birthday.

Date unknown.

How about using a Hebrew festival--The Tenth day of the Seventh month..the Day of Atonement

I would prefer a set day on the 'standard' calendar. Having to figure out which day it falls on each year would be a pain.

Timbo W24 Jul 2018 4:36 p.m. PST

Waterloo anniversary 18th June, since it's the subject that seems to send most inmates to the doghouse. Alternatively birthdays of Monty, Patton, Napoleon, Gribeauval or Col Elting ;-)

Are you kidding? An effort like that should have its own board! Imagine the collegial engagement and deep philosophical exchanges.

Also the cage matches. Let's not forget the cage matches.

Which was the most magnanimous one to his defeated enemies? Or was the least vindictive one after thoroughly crushing his foes in battle?

Regardless … there are some that were L/out, I'd like to see back.

However, there are a number I'd rather not see … at all ! wink

Here is how I think it will work, the most practical way.

On Annual Pardon Day, I will start a topic on TMP Poll Proposals to allow members to nominate who they would like to see unlocked.

While TMP staff could theoretically intervene to say someone can't come back, I think we'll leave it to the wisdom of the community, and hope they don't bring back anyone too dangerous or vile (i.e., a cyber stalker or anti-FoW bully).

Then it will run the usual poll course, the pre-poll discussion phase, then the voting. So the 'Day' will be for nominations, and the results will come a few months later.

On the real New Years = March First.

Just as Julius Caesar ordered it!

Personal logo Herkybird Supporting Member of TMP27 Jul 2018 10:51 a.m. PST

Maybe we should work like the ancient Athenians, and have a poll to see who should be ostracised from TMP for a period!

(PS: I am not serious!!!!)

Cacique Caribe27 Jul 2018 12:59 p.m. PST

Bill: "So the 'Day' will be for nominations, and the results will come a few months later."

Months???

Why not have the poll 3 weeks before "Pardons Day), that way you have 1 week to get nominations and 2 weeks to reach out to the people and find out who accepts the clean-slate offer to return.

This means that the poll could start right away, today, tomorrow, or next week.

Armistice Day, November 11th, a fitting day in many ways.

the wisdom of the community

The less you care about a situation, the less likely you are to offer an opinion. The more you care about a situation the less likely you are to have an unbiased opinion.

What is the date that Barabbas was chosen over Jesus ? huh?

Legion 4: "What is the date that Barabbas was chosen over Jesus?"

IF, as some sources claim, Jesus died mid afternoon on 14 Nisan of 29 C.E., a couple of hours before sunset (which was the start of 15 Nisan, a sabbath), then he died on what to us is the afternoon of Friday April 18.

What I can't remember at this moment is whether the trial before Pilate (and the release of Barabbas) happened earlier on that same day or if it occurred on the previous day.

Dan

Cacique Caribe28 Jul 2018 4:55 p.m. PST

My question would be, was Barabbas given a completely clean slate? Or was he a marked man who would always be one misdemeanor away from getting executed?

Dan

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP29 Jul 2018 6:57 a.m. PST

Thanks Dan, I did not know that. Save for it was a Friday, hence Good Friday.

And AFAIK Barabbas eventually ended up on the cross sometime later ?

My official vote is for Bastille Day. A great idea turned into a really bad implementation. Nice parallel.

Because handling it like any other poll is not only the easiest solution, but the way least likely to be forgotten. grin

So, what day will be the Pardons Day?

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP28 Aug 2018 3:54 p.m. PST

Jan 8th, the day after Jan 7th, National Fart Day?
