Let's try again and hope the Bugs don't attack… W00t — It's Old School Month on Kickstarter! As well as the Dragon Dice campaign that's up and running, Steve Jackson Games just launched the reboot of The Fantasy Trip. Super fun quick and easy character generation for hack and slash dungeon crawls or extended roleplaying. link |

As an owner of the original games I'm pretty excited about this. The new artwork and discussions about improvements on the system certainly seem encouraging. It's a great solo system as well. |

I remember playing this with fellow soldiers while on deployment back in the early 1980s. Even had some field grades come by and want to play. Mark |

Very excited about the return of the Fantasy trip. I played this in the Army as well back in the 1980s – great times! |

One of the first games my big brother introduce me to. Also played while stationed in Korea. Thanks Pzgeneral for very fond memories. "Don't jump in the well in Death Test!!" |

My favorite RPG memory till this day is walking up to Uncle Teeth, rolling a 3 on the To Hit and then max damage. Boss monster dead in one! |
PzGeneral | 23 Jul 2018 12:35 p.m. PST |
Saw Wiggles roll those triple 1s WAY too many times. Once I think at a convention multiple times in one game… |

I enjoyed playing these games when I was a college student in the late 1970s. I probably still have all of my old Metagaming games, including Melee and Wizard. |

You've ruined my childhood by making the Wizard a giiiiiiiirrrl!!! |

I always thought that the Fantasy Trip was a much better game than D&D, and I was a White Box D&D fanatic. It just never took off. I haven't played FT since '79. I'll be interested in seeing how it has aged – I played a game of G.E.V a few years ago, and was surprised at how dated it felt. |

I like the game and system but as far as Kickstarters go, once (and it's more than once) bitten twice shy. If it actually released I'll get it, if not it will simply remain a fond memory. |

Lucius, The Fantasy Trip actually got off to a rather good start, popularity-wise. It was more likely the collapse of Metagaming and the unfortunate behavior of Howard Thompson that led to its premature demise. I'm not a kickstarter guy, but I'll watch this with interest. TFT was a superb system. And it has aged very well! |

I still have all the rules, modules and scenario books. I am not sure if they have sold me on getting an upgraded version, but I will keep my eye on this one. |
Dynaman8789 | 23 Jul 2018 6:33 p.m. PST |
Once I played TFT I never went back to D&D, had to switch to GURPS along the way however. |

Steve Jackson Games is reliable. I just did their Dungeon Fantasy Kickstarter and it turned out fine, though not the financial success SJG had hoped for. I have no fears whatsoever about their kickstarters. |
miniMo | 23 Jul 2018 6:51 p.m. PST |
SJG is quite reliable with a very strong KS track record. TFT was doing great during it's time, but the rights were owned by Metagaming, so it went out of print with their demise. The statute of limitations has run out, and the rights have reverted to the author, Steve Jackson. |

TFT never grabbed me. Maybe it was not having a character survive the first few sessions (basically anything first level is overpowered by basically anything) Example Character Name: Gunnar Dhy |

Good game but its Steve Jackson games , So Ill pass. I still have the originals if I want a game. Iam sure he will changing the rules and updating them. |

I may have to buy in just for old time's sake. I spent countless hours with that system as a kid. |
DisasterWargamer | 24 Jul 2018 12:02 p.m. PST |
Im waiting to see what new items are included as I have all the originals – Use it both for Gladiator type games as well as pulling out Heroscape tile use Melee and Wizard. When I did a lot of role playing it was my go to system. |

I 'm happy to see the big gaming mats with the 1.5" hexes and there will be many megahex shapes released along the campaign. While I have an SPI counter-tray full of hand-drawn counters from back in college, these days I have a very large pile of chibi fantasy figures for my dungeon-bashing, and the bigger hexes are sweet! |

I've been doing demos in preparation for this, including four this last weekend at Comic-Con. This game is as great as ever. I was happily surprised that every time I've popped my dungeon on the table and given people their choice of the pregenned characters we have had an exceptional time – laughing, hanging on every die roll, arguing about what to do, it's a perfect frpg system. Just complicated enough to create flavorful characters and make interesting characters, just simple enough that the game just moves, moves, moves. I can't wait to play again this weekend! |

Those Kickstarter exclusive battle mats (for Melee and Wizard) alone are worth jumping in on the I Want It All level, rather than waiting for retail. So exciting to see this game coming back at a time when there are so many great components for fantasy gaming. Now we'll be able to game like we wished we could back in the 80s! |
miniMo | 02 Aug 2018 8:50 a.m. PST |
mechascorpio, right? I've got so many painted (and umm, many more unpainted) chibi figures that have been looking for a good rules set. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to haul TFT out for them before. But the new big playmats will make it so easy to plop down a quick game when I don't want to haul out the 3D dungeon rooms. |
