I have not seen any proper reviews of the new Warlord US WWII infantry, so I thought I would share my thoughts on them with anybody that was considering the purchase.

Now that I've had my hands on them I would say there is at least marginal improvement in most areas over the original set, the areas most deserving of mention are:

Detail – most pieces show improvement, with a few minor complaints (life the muzzle of the M1 Garand looking like it is flush with the gas tube rather than extending a bit past it)

Proportions – though they are still "heroic" rather than anatomically correct, this is the most noticeable area of improvement to me. Something about the old ones was just off. The combination of their big heads, tiny legs, and hunched over posture made them look like some weird man/chimp hybrid. The new guys have a much more balanced look. They are more on par with the late war German infantry (my favorite Warlord plastic set). Note some of the net covered helmets are still distractingly large, but you are given enough heads to just not use them if you wish.

My only complaint would be the number of rifles in the box (note this set has the arm and rifle as one piece which makes assembly easier). At three Garands per sprue, you have enough for 15 soldiers armed with the M1 Garand. A full strength American squad has 12 soldiers, 9 of which have the M1 Garand and that is assuming that the NCO and junior NCO are not armed with the M1. So with my 30 guys, I don't have enough to field two full strength, properly equipped squads. Picky, I know, but I'm just a nerd like that.

Painting Note – judging from the sculpt these guys seem to have the HBTs rather than the wool trousers. If that is so, the color they are painted on the box is wrong, as the HBTs are more of a green than the brownish wool M37 trousers. I think. It is hard to tell at 28mm LOL

I am not sure I will bother with these now the Perry's have a box in the pipeline. All the issues you mention will be done right by them, if their present boxes are anything to go by.
